Roles of Core Technologies in an Effective IT System Short Paper Emme Chadwick Southern New Hampshire University IT 505: Introduction to Core Technologies Dr. Robert Pratt 18 September 2023
1 Roles of Core Technologies in an Effective IT System Short Paper A system of core technologies forms the basis for the effectiveness behind the day-to-day operations of an organization as well as for more advanced technological requirements. Each part of a computer plays a specific function in the overall success of the system, and in order for this to work properly, these parts must communicate with one another. IT systems vary in terms of complications which largely depend on the intention of use. Some core technologies may be utilized more often than others, or they could be evenly dispersed. Regardless of the situation, Computer Programs and Programming, Computer Networks, Databases, Information Assurance, and Web Technologies each have a purpose in the success of the operation of an IT system. Computer Programs and Programming is comparable to the “brains” of the operation. Essentially, it tells the computer what to do and in which manner it should do it. This is the backbone of IT systems as other core technologies highly depend on this foundational concept in order to properly work. For example, databases are essentially a storage system that allows users to retrieve, enter, store, and delete data. In order for a database to process this request, computer programs and programming are there to ensure the smooth entering of information throughout the database and telling it how it should operate or complete a task. Additionally, Web Technologies are often used by Web Developers or Web Designers and also work closely with computer programming. Web technologies can easily be defined as the interactive component of a site along with storage and the overall display of photos, graphics, icons, and videos. Most commonly, coding languages like HTML, CSS, or Javascript are used when implementing web development. These different types of code help both the visitor to the site or application as well as the programmers behind the screen. Web technologies are able to work and process information because of the programming written out.
2 Furthermore, in relation to Information Assurance, the core technologies of Computer Networks, Databases, and Computer Programs are likely to come into play. Information assurance helps protect information and manages risks that are often associated with the handling of information or data transfers between computers. Due to this, it depends on Computer Networks which is a network with a multitude of computers that are connected and allow them to interact or communicate with one another. In order for these Computer Networks and Databases to be secure, Information Assurance is responsible for this task. Subsequently, Computer Programs and Programming can help institute firewalls or preventative measures for security purposes. These five different core technologies contribute to the overall operational strength and validity of an IT system. Without one or the other, the system could fail to work altogether or result in a data breach of sensitive information. Moreover, understanding the relationship between these components within an IT system can help during troubleshooting or the upgrade of the system. Whether it’s for casual at-home cloud storage or a large scale organization utilizing these components, the importance of their interdependence in relation to functionality remains the same.
