645.768 System Design and integration Homework #3 (Team) Objectives The objectives of this homework assignment are to: 1. Develop a physical architecture of the FEDPAS Command Center subsystem. 2. Identify component-to-component interactions . 3. Trace physical components to command center functions. Background The FADPAS conceptual design effort has been completed and you have access to the deliverables of that project. This includes a top-level description of the FEDPAS system. Your role will be to design the Command Center subsystem. References Wasson, Chapter 31 FEDPAS Physical Architecture FEDPAS CONOPS Assignment Problem 1. Read the FEDPAS Physical Architecture and the FEDPAS CONOPS documents. Using the two documents and your functional architecture from Homework 2, identify which components should be included in the Command Center. Write a Command Center subsystem description as the introduction to Section 3 of the FEDPAS Physical Architecture document. This will be section 3a. Problem 2 . Create a Command Center Block Definition Diagram (BDD) using Cameo. This diagram indicates the relationships between the components and subcomponents of the Command Center. In essence, this diagram is going to look like a component tree. Make sure that each component is decomposed into subcomponents. In other words, this tree will go down two levels. Include in Section 3b. Problem 3 . Create a Command Center Internal Block Diagram (IBD) using Cameo. This diagram should include all Command Center components blocks and their subcomponents. You should indicate the ports on the component blocks and label the connectors between components with the implementation type (e.g., mechanical, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, power cable). Include in Section 3c. Problem 4 . Create a Command Center Physical N2 Diagram using any application (Cameo does not have a dedicated N2 diagram feature; you will probably need to use PowerPoint, Visio, or Excel and cut-and-paste the diagram into Word). The N2 diagram should include what is passed along the connectors. Include in Section 3d.
Problem 5 . Identify the critical Measures of Performance (MOPs) for the Command Center. Create a Parametric Diagram in Cameo and include the attributes for each MOP. Include in Section 3e. Problem 6 . Trace each component and subcomponent to your lowest level functions in your functional architecture (i.e., identifying the functions each component will implement). Trace each function to one or more components in your physical architecture. Create a traceability table(s) or matrix(ices) and provide them in Section 4 of the physical architecture document. Problem 7 . Create an interface description table with the following headings: Interface ID, Interface Title, Component 1, Component 2, Implementation, What is Passed. For each connector in your IBD that connects components, provide an entry in the table. Include in Section 5. Grading Problems 1-6 are worth 15% of the assignment and will be judged on your ability to communicate the essence of the Command Center subsystem, as expressed in its components, subcomponents, and their interactions. Problem 7 is worth 10% of the assignment and will be judged on your ability to accurately describe the component to component interfaces.
