Francisca Santos HRM300 Monica Dupree March 10, 2024 HR's Role in Pathways Financial Credit Union Training Methods Every company has its unique approach to training and onboarding new employees. However, since people have different learning styles, what works for one person may not work for another. Hence, an organization must determine the learning style of a new employee before initiating any training. Pathways has an extensive training program that encompasses various topics that new employees need to know. Safety training is the first thing a new employee must complete. E-learning is used to provide information, tools, and resources to help trainees improve their performance. These programs may include links to other online information resources, and trainees and experts can collaborate on problem-solving. At Pathways, there is a dedicated web portal for training on various safety measures that apply to the credit union. The interactive portal explains necessary safety precautions such as first aid, fire safety, and other topics. Once the employee has read the required information, they will complete a short quiz to test their knowledge Gupta (2024). The Human Resources department at Pathways offers multiple training methods for its employees. One such method is on-the-job training, which allows for active participation and learning in the flow of work. This type of training aims to ensure faster user adoption of new tools or newly released features. Another popular technique is instructor-led training, which simulates a physical classroom environment with an instructor present to lead the session. This method provides direct interaction with trainers and other employees, prevents social isolation, and enables quick and effective responses to any questions that arise during the course. Lastly, the coaching method involves an experienced professional such as a supervisor, mentor, or

The HR training and development department is responsible for administering mandatory training on various topics and continuing education training online. They also organize and communicate any off-site training for our professionals. The training is not used as a reward or punishment, but rather as a best practice to inform all employees of the credit union of the required information or any updates that may have occurred. Previously, managers enforced disciplinary measures if their employees neglected to take their annual online training by the specified deadline. However, this practice has been discontinued as it put too much pressure on employees who already had to manage their day-to-day workload. The HR department used to hand out certificates to all employees who met compliance in their annual training, but this reward proved to have no bearing on the number of employees who completed their training to be compliant. The most common incentive for licensed and credentialed employees is Continuing Education Units (CEUs) that can be credited toward continuing education. Obtaining these units is also favorable for employees seeking promotions within the department. Apart from CEUs, there are no other incentives for employees who complete training (Employee Performance Management, 2023) (Pathways Financial Credit Union, 2021). As part of the onboarding training for new hires at Pathways, there are several components that employees need to be familiar with. These include HIPAA, Workplace Violence, Drug-Free Workplace, Security Awareness, Ohio Auditor of the State Fraud Reporting Systems training, Ohio Ethics Law, Understanding EEO, Sexual Harassment, and various computer security awareness training. In addition, employees are required to comply with several HR policies, including HR-22 (Code of Conduct and General Work Rules), HR-32 (Outside
HR's Role in Pathways Financial Credit Union Santos 3 Employment), and HR-43 (Active Aggressor Response). Employees are also responsible for ensuring that they comply with banking rules and regulations, such as the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/OFAC, Deposit Regulations (Reg D, CC, E), Privacy (Reg P & Financial Privacy), Unfair Deceptive Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) / FACTA, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Non-deposit Investment Products (NDIP), CTR Filings, Money Laundering Red Flags (including how to handle and report to the BSA Officer), and Privacy of consumer data and conversation (Bank Certificate, n.d.) (Consumer Loan Training, 2024). The onboarding training provided by Pathways covers a broad range of topics in line with the Ohio Revised Code. The HR department must keep the employees informed about company policies and any updates to them. I believe that the HR department does an excellent job of efficiently including all relevant topics in the onboarding training. However, to improve the training program, it may be useful to include video introductions of the Director of the credit union and other important Deputy Directors. This will help new employees put faces to names, especially since the credit union is quite large and has multiple floors and multiple branches. During the first year of employment, the employee is provided with ongoing training and support that is specific to their department. During the first year of employment, new employees receive ongoing training and support that's specific to their department or role. Human resources also provide various training videos that employees can access through the Pathways intranet website. These videos cover essential job functions such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and customer service. Additionally, there are videos on topics like mental health, 401k benefits, and the benefits guide, among others (Hastwell, 2023) (Pathways Financial Credit Union, 2021).

HR's Role in Pathways Financial Credit Union Santos 4 Pathways offers a valuable opportunity for employees to shadow in another department they may be interested in. This is not a training program, but rather a job rotation/transfer opportunity. It allows employees to move to another department to gain more experience. Pathways would benefit from adopting more cross-training methods. Most of our job functions are performed by one person, and many employees are nearing retirement. If we have more than one employee who knows how to do the job, this could potentially save the credit union more money. It would also provide more opportunities to internal employees for job progression (Pathways Financial Credit Union, 2021). The training methods and approaches used by Pathways HR seem to be highly effective and efficient, as indicated by several factors. The long-term performance of newly hired employees reflects how successful HR is in recruiting suitable candidates, successfully onboarding them, and equipping them with the necessary tools to thrive. Consistently high- performance rates among new hires help Pathways achieve strategic business objectives, resulting in happier and more engaged workers, better communication among managers, higher retention rates, and a strong employer brand (Pathways Financial Credit Union, 2021). In today's competitive job market, a strong employer brand is essential for success. Pathways' image plays a significant role in recruitment and is crucial in attracting top talent to the credit union.
