Running head: KJM2 TASK 1 1 KJM2 Task 1: Classroom Management Plan Serene Bou-Ghanem Western Governors University
KJM2 TASK 1 2 A1. My future third-grade classroom is a safe learning environment where will learn the content areas of math and reading. One instructional activity that I would incorporate is; reading hour, where the whole class focuses on reading the same book together, each student has a copy of the book and each student reads aloud a few sentences or a paragraph. The second instructional activity would be the math center where there are rotations of different math activities of different modes, one could include a mathematical game, whereas another area in the center would include the use of technology to complete some problems within a certain time frame, and groups of students would rotate around the center. A2. Safety and inclusivity are very important roles in my classroom. First of all, I would ensure that all students receive praise when they do things right. This means; if one of my third grader gives a compliment to another student, they receive praise, if one answers a question right, they will receive praise. This ensures a positive environment and will allow modeling to the rest of the class. Moreover, I will make sure to work on greeting all my students with a smile and ask them how they’re feeling, first thing in the morning. If a student feels down or upset, I will let them know I’m there for them if they feel like discussing their emotions. This would create a safe environment. In continuation, I will make sure that the classroom remains uncluttered and organized as part of the safety of the classroom. For students to be productive, I will give each of them tasks, which may be simple; such as sharpening pencils, handing out worksheets, or even taking notes for observation. This would
KJM2 TASK 1 3 also enhance the inclusivity and adhere to the safety of the classroom. Students love to feel like they’re in control and responsible for what the teacher tells them to do. All of the above will make all diverse learners feel included and welcome in the classroom and they’re able to confide in their teacher and/or their friends. I will work on affirmations which would teach children to be kind to each other. Moreover, on a daily basis, I will give diverse of individuals portrayed of different races, cultures, socio-economic statuses, genders, etc. without making any student feel offended or unwelcome in the classroom. A3. My first goal is to give a class job, for example, line leader, pencil sharpener, and office runner, to students on a daily basis and if a group of students didn’t get a job today, a different group will get the same jobs tomorrow. This will ensure that all students feel responsible, yet included in the environment. My second goal is to work together to create a no-bullying policy in and out of the classroom. This means students who are found bullying or being unkind to others will face consequences. My third goal is to create a class reward system in which all my students understand that there will be a reward if they comply with all class rules, norms, and routines for the day. This would give students an incentive to behave appropriately and make good personal choices for themselves, academically and behaviorally. A4. My classroom would consist of 4 tables grouped together, in which pupils will have their seats changed every two weeks to communicate will all students and not just with their friends. The tables will have two students next to each other and two students facing

KJM2 TASK 1 4 them. When there’s any independent work, tables will be shifted away a few inches so no disruptions are happening. All students will be seated in a way where they are facing the front of the class (where the teacher and whiteboard are) and ensure that everyone can see clearly. On the side of the room, student cubbies and areas of their materials such as tablets or laptops will also be available and will not disrupt class activity if a student needs to grab something. At the back of the room will be the learning centers as well as a calm zone for students to take a few moments if they’re not feeling well. The classroom will also be well decorated and include students’ work of progress in different areas; such as English or art. A5. One classroom routine is greeting students daily. The procedure of the greeting is standing at the door as they enter the classroom and giving the each student a choice of a high five, side hug, or fist pump. On the first day of school I will explain verbally to the students that that’s how I like to greet my students and they have the choice. On the outside wall of the classroom, I will put pictures of a hug, fist pump and high five and the student can make their choice by looking at the wall and remembering their preferred way of greeting. The choice of greeting could change on a daily basis but it allows students to feel in control of how they would like to greet and be greeted by their teacher. The second classroom routine is clapping a rhythm to get students attention and also quiet the class. The procedure for this routine is first explaining that I will clap and demonstrate the rhythm of clapping and when I do it, all students need to repeat the rhythm after me. I will do it the first time and repeat it frequently until ALL students are clapping after me, and understand that they need to lower their voices to zero and look at the teacher.
KJM2 TASK 1 5 A6. The first classroom rule is, walking feet in the classroom . Walking ensure safety, whereas if a student is running or is fast-paced on their feet, it’s not safe for them or for other students in the class. When a student is not using their walking feet, I will remind them that they should and it’s for their safety and the safety of others. If I see the student running or pacing really fast in the classroom the second time, I will let stop them and ask them if they’re abiding by the classroom rules or not and why. Finally, the third time, I will have to give the student a consequence for breaking one of the class rules. I would have the student write ten reasons why walking feet are essential in the classroom and what may happen if they’re not walking around others in a small space such as the classroom. Another classroom rule is, to always keep indoor voices to a minimum when in the classroom or building. I wouldn’t want any of my students screaming or being really loud and disrupting others in the classroom or outside. Keeping voices to a minimum would mean that students are respecting others and that follows the norm of being kind and respectful to others. If students are getting louder than they should, I would approach them the first time by asking them to kindly lower their voices to indoor voices. If the same student is being loud again, I will praise students who are using their indoor voices and I will make sure that this procedure continues with all my students. If a student is misbehaving, I will let them know a consequence will be approached. The third classroom rule would be, to follow directions. Following directions is an essential rule in my classroom as it keeps everyone focused and listens to instructions when they are given. If I notice that a student is not following directions the first time, I will repeat them once again to give them the chance to abide by the rule. If I notice they’re constantly not following directions, I would point out to the list of classroom rules and ask them which one they’re not following.
KJM2 TASK 1 6 This would allow the student to notice they’re not abiding by classroom rules and perhaps change their behavior towards something more positive. When students are following directions, they are using the norm of responsibility and this is essential in a classroom. A7. As mentioned earlier, I will create a class reward system. The system includes golden tokens that are given out to students if they adhere to class rules and routines. For every 20 tokens collected, the student gets to choose a prize from the prize box which includes things like fidgets, little toys, or slimes. Moreover, positive reinforcement to students adhering to class rules will include verbal praise to allow students to feel recognized and known to others that they have made the right choice. Consequences I would give to students who violate class rules are jobs at recess such as picking up trash. Another consequence would be a verbal warning and if another warning occurs, parents/guardians will be contacted about poor behavior. A8. As previously mentioned, one of my classroom goals is to provide daily jobs to students. There are different duties that one student will be managing for the whole day, this could include pencil sharpening, caboose, line leader, lunch door holder, and much more. I will provide jobs for half of the class and for those who did not get a job today, they will get a job the next day. I will make sure to not give the same job to the same student for each day. For example, if one student gets the door holder job, they will not get the same job in the next round. This will ensure that all students are responsible for different things and it will not create bias in the classroom, yet it will make all students feel included and that I’m being fair to each and every one of them.
