5-2 Milestone Two Joshua Rose IT-212: Intro to Computer Networks Prof. Livingston September 29, 2023
Considerations for Fayetteville Office. I. Internet Service Provider. Of the many options available for internet service in that area, I would consider using either Spectrum or MetroNet. They allow for much higher upload and download speeds compared to some of the other providers. Spectrum is a very reliable service provider with decent speeds up to 1,000 Mbps and has proper support for business clients. I would more than likely go with MetroNet though, with speeds up to 10Gbps, this would easily allow for seamless upload and downloads for file sharing and mostly uninterrupted video conferencing when needed. II. Additional Configurations . As for the hardware and software to consider for the new office. We should consider the following items. Routers & Switches : To create points for the connection to be shared amongst the users in the location, create and manage secure VPN tunnels from this location to other company locations. Modems : The provided high-speed modem provided by MetroNet would be adequate for the needs of the office. Computers : I would suggest using Dell’s business branded systems, as they provide strong and lasting hardware solutions, great speeds and reliability. They can be customized per system if we require special setups for individuals in the office. They also have great business bulk buy pricing. Software: I would suggest going with one of the better all in one business software solutions, being Office 365, offering the whole suite of programs offered, installed
locally and cloud application support. The subscription also allows for 1TB of storage and more upon requirements. Printer Configuration: As for the printer options in this new location, I would go for something feature packed but not an industrial size. The Brother MFC-L8905CDW seems to be a good fit for this office. It offers Wi-Fi and gigabit ethernet connections, print and scan options from a mobile device, 70-page auto document feeder, built in NFC scanner for security access to the printer, as well as offering not only black and white printing but full color. Bandwidth and Devices: With our higher speeds coming from MetroNet, the bandwidth and latency speeds should be more than adequate to support multiple video conferences. When looking at devices for conferences, I would suggest this Logitech BCC950, as it offers premium features at much lower prices compared to other options. Coming in at $250, this device has integrations with Webex, Zoom, and other conferencing programs, has an 8-foot microphone range, provides full duplex speakerphone and HD video all in a small size.
