C105 Task 1
A.
Visual Arts/Science
A1. TEKS Chapter 117.114.b.2.C Art, Grade 4- Creative expression. The student communicates ideas through original artworks using a variety of media with appropriate skills. The student expresses thoughts and ideas creatively while challenging the imagination, fostering reflective thinking, and developing disciplined effort and progressive problem-solving skills. The student is expected to: produce drawings; paintings; prints; sculptures, including modeled forms; and other art forms such as ceramics, fiber art, constructions, mixed media, installation art, digital art and media, and photographic imagery using a variety of art media and materials.
A2. TEKS Chapter 112.15.b.6.C Science, Grade 4- Force, motion, and energy. The student knows that energy exists in many forms and can be observed in cycles, patterns, and systems. The student is expected to: demonstrate that electricity travels in a closed path, creating an electrical circuit.
A3. A learning activity that integrates both standards would be making a simple electrical circuit using various art media and materials. The teacher would explain to the students how the project should be completed and what materials the students would have to use.
A3a. Electricity and Circuits-Electric bulb, by sciencewithme.com
A3b. This work of art supports the standards because it shows the students how a circuit is made using different materials.
A4. This is justified for a cohesive learning experience because it has the students use different materials to make a visual art circuit that works.
B.
Theater/Language Arts
B1. TEKS Chapter 117.116.b.2.E Theatre, Grade 4- Creative expression: performance. The student interprets characters using the voice and body expressively and creates dramatizations. The student is expected to: create simple stories collaboratively through imaginative play, improvisations, and story dramatizations, demonstrating a logical connection of events and describing the characters, their relationships, and their surroundings.
B2. TEKS Chapter 110.6.b.1.D English Language Arts and Reading, Grade 4- Developing and sustaining foundational language skills: listening, speaking, discussion, and thinking--oral language. The student develops oral language through listening, speaking, and discussion. The student is expected to: work collaboratively with others to develop a plan of shared responsibilities.
B3. A learning activity that integrates both the standards listed above would be to have the students create simple stories collaboratively in groups. The students would have to come up with a plan where
all the students in the group would share responsibilities. The teacher would read the short story “The Mystery of the Missing Lunch”. Then the students would have to create their own simple story like this one.
B3a. The Mystery of the Missing Lunch by Johanna Hurwitz
B3b. This work of art supports the learning activity because the students would be reading a short story, so they would know how they needed to write their own. This is appropriate for 4th-grade students because it is a book that is in their reading levels.
B4. The activity integrates the drama/theater standard because the standard states that the students will
create a short story that demonstrates connections of events and describes the characters. It integrates the Language Arts standard because the students would need to share the responsibilities of writing the story.
C.
Dance/Math
C1. National Standard- DA:Cr1.1.4.b- b. Develop a movement problem and manipulate the elements of dance as tools to find a solution.
C2. TEKS Chapter 111.6.b.1.A Mathematics, Grade 4- Mathematical process standards. The student uses mathematical processes to acquire and demonstrate mathematical understanding. The student is expected to: apply mathematics to problems arising in everyday life, society, and the workplace.
C3. A learning activity that would incorporate both standards would be teaching the students the dance. The students would learn the movements and manipulate them in order. The students would also have to figure out a mathematical process to demonstrate they knew how many counts each movement was and how many times it was repeated in the dance.
C3a. Kidz Bop Kids-Old Town Road (Dance Along)
C3b. The work of art supports the learning activity by teaching the students the Old Town Road dance.
C4. This activity effectively integrates both standards because the students are having to manipulate the dance moves while trying to apply math to dance problems to figure out what movements happen on what count and how many times they need to repeat the move.
D.
Music/Social Studies
D1. TEKS Chapter 117.115.b.5.B Music, Grade 4-Historical and cultural relevance. The student examines music in relation to history and culture. The student is expected to: perform music representative of America and Texas, including "Texas, Our Texas".
D2. TEKS Chapter 113.15.b.16.B Social Studies, Grade 4-Citizenship. The student understands important customs, symbols, and celebrations of Texas. The student is expected to: sing or recite "Texas, Our Texas".
D3. A learning activity that goes with the standards would be learning the Texas state song “Texas, Our Texas.”. The teacher would show a YouTube video of the song along with handing out a paper copy of the lyrics to the song. The students’ role would be to listen and try to learn the song. The student will perform the song on Texas Independence Day for the School.
D3a. “Texas, Our Texas” by William J. Marsh and Gladys Yoakum Wright.
Texas, Our Texas Lyrics by Dressed in Sheets | TPT (teacherspayteachers.com)
D3b. The work of art supports the learning activities above because they both state that the students will
perform and sing Texas, Our Texas.
D4. I justified this activity by having the students learn to sing Texas, Our Texas, and perform it in front of the school.
