2-4 page paper Prompt
Given the case as described, provide an analysis of Eduardo’s situation as it currently exists and recommend steps he can take to help transform his leadership style.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
1. Define the following leadership skills
and explain why Eduardo should focus on developing each of these: All connected to adaptive leadership which is going to be required when undertaking not only different projects but also different personality styles and how they all impact the execution and success of routine assignments and larger undertakings. Strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, and communication skills are three essential capacities that Eduardo should adopt and grow in his current leadership role.
Strategic thinking –Makes you an adaptive leader (page 21 of Adaptive Challenges require Adaptive Leaders source). Many problem-solving events require adaptability. For example, in the case of Eduardo, he leads a team composed of dynamically different individuals. He will need to strategically think about how to extract their unique skills and empower them to fulfill their respective roles with a sense of accomplishment.
Emotional intelligence – Like strategic thinking, Emotional intelligence is strongly connected to adaptability. Why? Because knowing what resonates with one person and not another is a key ingredient in getting the most out of your team. Emotional intelligence is strongly correlated to happiness, empathy, and optimism (p 31 of EMOTIONAL
INTELLIGENCE RESOURCE). All three of these dynamics are either in short supply or currently missing. Those under Eduardo are experiencing a sense of despair from being left out, they don’t feel heard and aren’t experiencing a sense of
empathy from their leader, and this results in consequential pessimism. EI is even more crucial as it is intricately tied to communication skills in general.
Communication skills – when employing the attributes of EI, communication skills inevitably improve. When it comes to oral communication, excellence in this area provides buffers against negative challenges, inspires, and creates an atmosphere of fairness as the leader is able to convey information in an objective nonbiased way (

2. Describe two actionable steps
Eduardo should take towards developing these leadership skills and explain how each step might help improve his situation.
Empowering people to complete the work will begin to offset and then reset the existing feelings of feeling left out of the decision making process and solution implementation that individuals are experiencing. Ensuring all perspectives are heard will make people feel like they
are a crucial part of whatever undertakings are attempted. People
currently feel talked at and not talked with. This has created an adversarial relationship, to quote the transcript in the prompt. If Eduardo takes into account all perspectives, people will feel heard, respected for their contributions, and more inclined to see Eduardo as a compassionate leader who sees the value they bring
in their roles. As it stands, they feel like Eduardo minimally engages them, if at all, and just does his own thing all the time. Adaptive Challenges Require Adaptive Leaders.
Page 20 of this source As adaptive leaders help others through change, they utilize the following six actions: 1. Acquiring a new perspective 2. Identifying
the adaptive problem 3. Monitoring members’ concerns and worries 4. Maintaining consistent focus 5. Empowering people to complete the work 6. Ensuring that all perspectives are heard (Northouse, 2016).

OF THE ASSIGNMENT 3. Explain how Eduardo can utilize the flywheel effect
to transform his leadership style and identify the tasks he should perform to promote gradual improvement that provides tangible evidence his strategy is yielding results. Support your response. PAGE 41 from Good to Great Resource Flywheel effect involves what seems like an insurmountable amount of work at first to gain some traction, but in the long-run it is well worth the effort as progress begets progress and eventually showcases very tangible and satisfying results. Start small and celebrate small wins (USE TEXT BOOK REFERENCE). “To get people to do things they have never been done before, you make progress incrementally” (K-172). Eduardo is going to need to start small to build a foundation of trust, respect, and comradery with his team as these are lacking at the moment. Eduardo should consider asking for genuine feedback and being open to the answers he receives from those he oversees. Adopting a stance
of non defensiveness and understanding increases the chances of authentic feedback. This will get the wheel in motion. He could then draft a series of tasks for an upcoming project and meet with the team collectively to ascertain their areas of interests and determine the best fit for each member (possibly creating duo or trio partnerships to work on a task). This will build cross momentum with the team

further turning the wheel. He can follow up by monitoring progress for the team, asking for updates, and offering assistance where needed. Eduardo needs to be open to allowing the team to make mistakes and not do things his way but instead observing nonjudgementally and gently guiding them back to a productive path if necessary. If Eduardo makes the flywheel push of first seeking feedback, second enlisting the team in a project, and third participating in a supprotive capacity in that project, Eduardo will begin to see momentum pick up in his team and positivity towards him will increase as he sees their growth in confidence, enthusiasm, and satisfaction with their roles.
