1.
What is this speech’s topic?
This might be the wrong answer, but I didn’t notice just one specific topic. There were numerous topics that were talked about, like abortions, good and evil, and prayer. 2.
What is the speech’s thesis or main point?
In my opinion, I feel like the main point of this speech was talking about the inalienable rights under Gods recognition.
3.
What in the speech, if anything, suggests the speaker (or his speech writers) had analyzed the audience and adapted the speech to its needs?
Regan stated numerous times about yourself, your family, your churches, your community, and your neighborhoods. He also adjusted his audience to specifically girls. 4.
Did the speaker use effective and relevant material to support the speech’s thesis?
Yes, Regan gave us supporting arguments by mentioning other people such as Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln, William Penn, and many more. 5.
Was the speech effectively organized?
In my opinion, I believe the speech was beyond organized. It seems like it was written perfectly, and the way he talked was very professional, and it seemed to have gotten the point across.
6.
Did the speaker use clear, interesting, and accurate language?
In my opinion, I would say yes, the speaker used clear language. 7.
Was the quality of the speaker’s voice acceptable?
Yes, I would say I could understand clearly. He changed up his voice when emphasizing certain points.
8.
Were the speaker’s movements and gestures meaningful and effective?
In my opinion, I don’t think he moved around as much. He mainly stayed in the same
place. He did make good eye-contact with everyone in the crowd. 9.
Explain how Reagan, via a specific statement in this speech (quote it!), promoted one of the 28 God-valued qualities that the textbook lists as outcomes that a redemptive communicator, might promote via a speech as an expression of authentic love for God? (see Module 6's "2.2--Redemptive Communication" section)
This quote shows one of the 28 God-valued qualities the textbook lists. “The commandment given us is clear and simple. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. But whatever sad episodes exist in our past, any objective observer must hold positive view on American history” (
"Evil Empire" 0:21:07
). This statement is showing us love. Matthew 22:37-39 state, “
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.
And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself
.”
