Cyberbullying is when someone uses technology like social media or messaging apps to harass, intimidate or harm others. Teachers play a crucial role in preventing and addressing cyberbullying. First, creating a safe and inclusive classroom environment is critical. By establishing clear expectations for respectful online behavior from the beginning of the school year. Foster a positive and supportive environment where students feel comfortable reporting any incident of cyberbullying. Next, make sure that the students are aware and educated on cyberbullying. Teaching the students about the consequences and impact of this can help and be sure to discuss responsible online etiquette and the importance of treating others with kindness. Something I was always taught from kindergarten, was “treat others the way you want to be treated”. If cyberbullying happens between students in the classroom/school you want
to make sure you take the appropriate steps. First thing would be gathering all the information on what happened and who was involved. Make sure you provide support to the victim and offer emotional support, let them know that you are there for them and not alone. Next, talk with the students involved and meet with the students who are engaging in the cyberbullying aside. Make sure you address the issue calmly and firmly and emphasize the impact of their actions. Encourage them to reflect on their behaviors and how they acted and treated others. Make sure to get the parents or guardians involved and aware of the situation and what happened. Make sure to apply appropriate disciplinary measures based on the schools policies
which could include, detention, loss of privileges or referral to school administration.
