How My Culture Perceives Mental Health and Wellness Many black people do not take mental health seriously and will gaslight the individual into thinking they are being overly emotional/sensitive to the situation. This leads to a lack of healing and management of the mental health symptoms.
How My Cultural Background Influences Me My cultural backgrounds allows for me to feel supported in more ways than one based on the unity that is exposed to us as children at a young age. I believe that I am more open to other cultures due to my ability to reflect on the poor communication skills that are involved within my culture, and this option to break the cycle is rewarding in more ways than one.

Conclusion I am a young, black female from Newport News, VA that works as a Mental Health Professional for a local community agency focused on Mental Health Awareness and Community Stability. I am heterosexual and my pronouns are she/her. I love being black! There may be things that I wish I did not have to experience from other individuals within my community, but I feel rewarded from the positive interactions and supports I receive from knowing my ancestry and being exposed to other cultures that can teach me more about the things I want to implement in my life moving forward. I am Andrea.
