What worked well during the observation?
I think that the students working in groups worked pretty well. The one on one with
the groups was a plus for her students.

Pay careful attention to the students, are they learning? What type of evidence is shown to suggest the students are learning?
Yes they are learning but I don’t think the instructions from the teacher were very clear to them. I feel like they were learning because once the teacher came and spoke with them and guide them they started to understand the lesson better.

Describe the physical environment of the classroom and aesthetics (how materials are organized, student/desk arrangement, use of space, attractive, etc.)
The room is kind of small. She has her desk into groups of 4. The students are standing around the desks and completing the activity that was given to them.

Was there a time when the students were ‘lost’? What did the teacher do to get the students back on track?
Yes, there was time the students were lost. I didn’t see her do anything to get the students back on track. I really didn’t understand what the students were doing in the lesson.

Was the lesson teacher centered or student centered? Provide justification/evidence of your answer.
I think the lesson was more teacher center then student. She guides the conversation with the group of students. They were more confused than anything. 9.
How did the teacher check for student understanding? How does he/she know the students are learning what he/she is teaching?
She asked the students question based on the lesson that she taught that goes along with the activity they are completing. The questions that she asks ties back into the art
work that they are looking at. 10. What suggestions do you have for the teacher to improve his/her teaching (so that student
learning can increase)?
I think she should have started the lesson off with a piece that a group of students wasn’t going to use and show them how to breakdown the different part of the object.
11. What is one concept you observed that you would like to use in your classroom?
When she made to students stop and actually look at the dress that was made out of newspaper and tell how the parts was connect to what they were made out of.

How the atoms are transfer from the food to the cricket. She is trying to get the students to understanding that matter is all around us. 4.

The students breaking into groups to discuss the assignments.

The students are learning because they were actively engaged in the learning process the teacher was asking questions to fit the assignment for the day.

The students are sitting at tables. They classroom seem to be well organize. The classroom has science related material on the walls.

The students seem to be engaged in the lesson and willing to answer all questions by the teacher.

Was the lesson teacher centered or student centered? Provide justification/evidence of your answer.
The lesson was more students centered because the teacher was asking probing questions so that the students will respond to the questions. 9.
How did the teacher check for student understanding? How does he/she know the students are learning what he/she is teaching?
The teacher checked for students understanding by asking questions to get the students to think about the answer to the question. The teacher will know by asking questions and the student will respond with the correct answer.

10. What suggestions do you have for the teacher to improve his/her teaching (so that student
learning can increase)?
I think that the teacher should have tried peer tutoring meaning let one of the students teach a piece of the lesson.
11. What is one concept you observed that you would like to use in your classroom?
I think I would try breaking the students into small groups letting them talk about the lesson and then let them come back together to discuss the answer in a larger group.

Students were sitting in groups answering questions from the teacher.
Another set of students seems to be working on the computer with another teacher.
One student was working at the table by herself.

The students listening and talking to one another. The students were actively paying attention to one another. 5.

Yes the students are learning because they are listening to each other and having meaningful conversation with each other.

Students used a Smart Board
Students were in groups
Students used graphic organizers
Some students spoke in very low tone making it hard to understand what was being said.
Classroom was very colorful.

Was there a time when the students were ‘lost’? What did the teacher do to get the students back on track?
I did not observe a time when a student was lost. I feel that the teacher did a wonderful job .

The lesson was student centered because the teacher allowed the students to present their work to their classmates and allowed the students to give feedback.

How did the teacher check for student understanding? How does he/she know the students are learning what he/she is teaching?
The teacher checked for understanding by allowing the students to ask probing question and having the students to talk about what questions they were asking.
10. What suggestions do you have for the teacher to improve his/her teaching (so that student
learning can increase)?
The teacher did a wonderful job with this lesson. In fact she made the students feel comfortable with speaking in the classroom.
11. What is one concept you observed that you would like to use in your classroom?
I really like the fishbowl approach. The students were in groups and they discussed the assignment after that each student talked and their peers rated them on their communication skills.
