CNN. https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/15/health/bullying-identity-social- wellness/index.html This article from CNN emphasizes the stigma that many parents still have about bullying. Many parents are not familiar with how prevalent social media has become. They are also unaware of the dangers that they pose for young adults especially because anonymity is a major player online. Many parents still think that bullying is physical and a lot of it still is, but they neglect the impact that cyberbullying has on a child's mental health. In this article, they explain how cyberbullying leads to greater mental distress and thoughts of suicide. They found that nearly half of U.S. teens have been bullied or harassed online. Cyberbullying takes many different types of forms such as offensive name-calling, false rumors, no consent sharing of explicit images, and many others. The group that is most susceptible to being targeted is older teen girls. Appearance is the main concern that takes place in cyberbullying. 3. Rise in bullying since the pandemic Quillen, A. During the pandemic, students were forced to stay home and receive education online. This contributed to increased stress, negative relationships, and failure to access assistance from those who could help. The students also spent more time online due to the pandemic which contributed to cyberbullying and not recognizing the impact of their actions. Many victims of bullying did not tell their parents or anyone which leads to increased stress and mental distress.

They spoke about how numerous studies have found that social media poses significant danger to young adults, especially girls, increasing the risk of suicide. They want social media companies to verify the age of their users, increase punishment for cyberbullying, and remove features and posts that are addicting and target children. This is a step on the state and national level so that more states will follow in their footsteps to counter cyberbullying and spread information on how dangerous social media can be for our children. 1 Source of local news 1. The article highlighted how many parents have reported their children being bullied however only 24% of those reports returned a satisfied outcome. Many of the reported cases were disregarded due to it not aligning with the schools’ bullying rubric. This has caused many parents to be frustrated with the school district along with contributing to bullied students not receiving the help they needed. This is a huge problem on the local level because every school district is different and student spend a large portion of their daily time in school.
