REPORT ON COMMUNICATION 3 3. Here is a closer look at an organization or website used by people in my field. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a member-driven organization that exists to give college athletes a road to opportunity (https://www.ncaa.org). 1098 schools and universities as well as 102 athletic conferences make up its membership. The 19,886 teams that send more than 57, 661 competitors to compete in the NCAA's 90 finals in 24 sports across three divisions each year are made up of over 500,000 college athletes. On the panels that recommend regulations and guidelines for college sports, the NCAA is represented. The rules that will be implemented on campus, from academics and competitions to recruiting and compliance, are ultimately decided by the members. 4. Describe things you found as you looked at an organization or website used by people in your field. The website for the NCAA is neatly laid up. It enables both its members' universities and student-athletes and college sports enthusiasts to stay up to date on the regulations and standards of collegiate athletics. The website also offers helpful information for aspiring collegiate student- athletes. Although the language is formal, the process of becoming a collegiate athlete can be completed by a student in high school because it is straightforward. The Student-Athlete Leadership Forum and Career in Sports Forums are two education and training initiatives provided by the NCAA with the goal of fostering the personal growth and well-being of college athletes. Also, the NCAA provides After the Game Career Center, which links former student- athletes with career guidance and job listings for a variety of industries.

REPORT ON COMMUNICATION 4 5. Here are tips for communicating in this field of study. Speaking with a member of sports management would be similar to talking with persons in the education sector about the commercial side of sports and recreation. One of the qualities most appreciated in sports management is social skills. Communication, both formally and informally, is essential for success. While it is utilized for bargaining in the sports world, rhetoric is also widely used. The ideal candidate will have experience running sports clinics or camps, coaching, or officiating. Participating in sports, whether professional or amateur, as a volunteer, creates a strong basis for success in the discourse community.
REPORT ON COMMUNICATION 5 Annotated Bibliography Humphreys, B. R., & Ruseski, J. E. (Mar 2018). Strategic interaction in a repeated game: Evidence from NCAA football recruiting. Review of Industrial Organization, 52(2), 283- 303. doi:10.1007/s11151-017-9600-1 https://search-proquestcom. ezproxy1.apus.edu/docview/1967240565?pq-origsite=primo&accountid=8289# The two authors of this article are both members of the Department of Economics at West Virginia University. In the completion of this article, the authors referenced 12 sources mostly from journals in the field of economics, thus enhancing their credibility. In this paper, Humphreys et al. (2018) develop evidence of strategic interaction within Division 1A football – in terms of complying with or cheating on NCAA recruiting regulations. Humphreys et al. believe NCAA FBS football contains evidence that institutions engage in strategic behavior that involves directly or indirectly reporting some knowledge of recruiting violations of rivals to the NCAA Committee on Infractions. This source will be helpful because it will provide a historical and theoretical data to for recruiting violations. Magnusen, M. J., Kim, Y., Perrewé, P. L., & Ferris, G. R. (2014). A critical review and synthesis of student-athlete college choice factors: Recruiting effectiveness in NCAA sports. International Journal of Sports Science & Coaching, 9(6), 1265-1286. doi:10.1260/1747- 9541.9.6.1265 http://web.a.ebscohost.com.ezproxy1.apus.edu/ehost/pdfviewer/pdfviewer? vid=1&sid=9ff2d444-25c3-44ae-a14d-ad1278048ff4%40sdc-v-sessmgr02 The four authors of this article represent three universities (Baylor, Seoul National, and Florida State). They referenced more than 60 sources from various areas of study to include psychology,
REPORT ON COMMUNICATION 6 human resource studies, and sports management: thus, enhancing the authors’ creditability. The authors conduct a critical review of the numerous factors that go into recruiting that influence student-athletes into attending universities. To achieve their review, Manusen et.al (2014), identified and answered three questions; 1) How do athletic departments improve recruitment effectiveness? 2) How do recruiters improve recruitment effectiveness? and 3) How do the interactions between recruits and key influential agents impact recruitment effectiveness? This source will be helpful because it will provide a baseline into the factors considered by studentathletes prior to making their college decision – as student-athletes may soon be paid for their likeness and the possible advantage in the recruitment to larger schools.
