IV.
Preview your main points: First, I’ll tell you how in-person schooling environments are no longer
safe, then, I’ll tell you how homeschooling provides a safe and stress-free education, lastly, I’ll tell you how the benefits of homeschooling can bring more support from others.
Transition statement: Let me begin!
Body
I.
In-person schooling environments are no longer safe for any student.
A.
The main concern for a parent is their children’s safety. 1.
The amount of school shooting in this era has increased a lot. 2.
According to the article “Homeschooling”, by Gale published in 2023 “The persistence of mass shootings at schools, such as those at Marjory Stoneman Douglas
High in 2018 and Robb Elementary School in 2022, underlie some parents' belief that public schools are unable to provide safe learning environments.”
3.
Bullying is also a safety concern for parents.
4.
This is an issue mainly among the African American community. 5.
It has led to a major number of African American children being homeschooled. 6.
Homeschooling parents believe this to be a major issue because it has led to students
committing suicide.
7.
Which again provides an unsafe learning environment. B.
Another major concern for parents is the curriculum being taught to their children.
1.
Many parents believe that the school system is leaving out important events that happened in history that children should know about.
2.
They also believe that all children learn differently. 3.
Parents advocate for a better curriculum that fits the learning qualities of all children.
Transition statement: Now that I’ve told you in-person schooling no longer being safe let’s move on to how homeschooling provides a safe and stress-free environment.
II.
Homeschooling has become a better learning environment for children.
A.
Homeschooling allows children to learn their own curriculum.
1.
Parents can set up a curriculum that fits their children’s lifestyle.
2.
Parents are able to implement their religious beliefs into their children’s learning. 3.
According to Kerry, McDonald in the article “ MSNBC Claims Homeschooling Is Driven by 'Insidious Racism,' but the Facts Show Otherwise” published in 2023 “ … 16 percent of homeschooling parents in the nationally representative sample chose a "desire to provide religious instruction" as their top motivator.”
4.
Having control over what their children are being taught and how they teach it to them improves the children's learning.
5.
A stress-free education can increase their academic scores.
B. Parents can supervise their children.
1.
Homeschooling bring relief to parents because they can monitor the activities the children conduct.
2.
Many parents believe this is a sage way to keep their children away from drugs.
3.
They also believe this will keep them away from bad influences and peer pressure.
4.
It keeps children from getting into physical fights or toxic relationships.
5.
To homeschooling parents there is no safer place than home.
Transition statement: I have told you how home schooling provides a safe and stress-free environment , now I will tell you how the benefits of homeschooling can bring more support from others.
III.
Homeschooling brings many benefits and should be supported more.
A.
Homeschooling brings many benefits others don’t consider.
1.
It provides a safe environment.
2.
It also provides flexibility for your children to learn in their own time.
3.
It can provide special accommodation for the way your children learn.
4.
It has also been proven that it provides better academic performance.
B. Homeschooling also brings financial benefits for the community and should be more supported.
1.
Homeschooling isn’t receiving any government help or any support from other parents.
2.
Parents of homeschooled children are responsible for all educational expenses.
3.
According to William Heuer in his article “ The Government Should Provide Support to Homeschooling Families” published in 2017 “ But homeschooling families incur their own educational costs for everything from books and technology to packaged curricula and testing services.”
4.
This means the government is saving a large amount of money for the kids not attending school. 5.
However, these parents are still held accountable like any other parent. 6.
William Heuer in his article “ The Government Should Provide Support to Homeschooling Families” published in 2017 also states “ Yet they pay the same taxes as other families to fund their district schools, which they generally do not use to any large degree.”
7.
Many parents believe that this is a big enough reason for the government to provide a big amount of support towards homeschooling.
8.
Acknowledging all these factors should advocate more for homeschooling. Transition statement: With that being said, let me conclude!
Conclusion
I.
Summary of main points: First, I told you about how in-person schooling environments are no longer safe, second, I told you how homeschooling provides a safe and stress-free environment, lastly, I told you how the benefits of homeschooling can bring more support from others.
II.
Call to Action: By now I hope I have convinced you to support homeschooling parents.
III.
Memorable closing remark: Thank you for listening!
