Based on evidence from your readings in the text, the four articles you found, and any other resources you have available, discuss what you think are the most important aspects of the counseling relationship. Be sure to reference all your resources. Explain how your favorite theoretical orientation or orientations influence the way you view the counseling relationship. (See the list of theoretical orientations above.)
Throughout my time at Capella, as well as during personal experience, I have learned about so many different aspects of the counseling relationship. I believe that the most important aspect of the counseling relationship is trust. Trust is something that you must build and work towards, and this is something that can be very difficult for everyone in the world but especially for some people who are seeking counseling. The client needs to be able to trust the counselor as well as the counselor should be able to trust the client. The goal of counseling genuinely only works if there is trust within the relationship between the counselor and the client. Another important counseling relationship aspect that I feel is important to discuss is the topic of communication. As the counseling relationship goes on it should become easier and easier for the counselor and the client to communicate with each other. Communication is something that can also get easier as trust is being built. If a client cannot trust the counselor that might hinder their ability to communicate with their counselor and then that defeats the purpose of counseling in general. This is why I believe trust and communication are two very important aspects within the counseling relationship. Cormier, L. S. (2022).
