Scenario One A colleague is working with a child who is Autistic and this child becomes highly stressed when placed in situations where they are forced to socialize with other children. A professional has recommended that the child be slowly taught socialization skills and given an opportunity to practice them with one person they trust. The colleague tells you that they think the child will learn to socialize better if they are ‘thrown in the deep end and involved in as many group activities a
s possible.’ Q. Identify what will happen if the colleague does not implement the strategies suggested by the professional? Answer: Autistic children are persons who are afraid to interact with others and prefer to be silent in groups. Standing in front of a crowd is tough and difficult for them. Furthermore, if they are placed in a random playgroup, they may encounter greater problems from their friends and may experience more difficulties grow more humiliated, nervous, and irritated with themselves As a result, putting them in the this scenario, falling off the deep end and becoming engaged in a lot of group activities is not a smart choice. Introducing children to People they can rely on will assist them in slowly but definitely improving. Scenario Two A four year old attends the facility in which you work. The child has learning difficulties and vision impairment. After an initial period of insecurity, they gave every appearance of fitting in and enjoying their time in the education and care service, until a visiting entertainer accidentally frightened them. Not realizing the child’s vision impairment, the entertainer who was seeking a volunteer to help him, approached the child outside their field of limited vision to ask them to help. Since then, the child has been reluctant to come to the facility and, when they are there, they are withdrawn and do not participate in any activities. Q. List four (4) strategies you would use to address this situation? Answer: •Explain to him/her that an entertainer simply wanted to be helped by them and that it was a little mistake that would not occur again here. •Try to help them realize the issue fully
. •Tell their parents what happened so that they may talk to their child
. •Make the situation normal for the children, and then provide another fun activity for them to temporarily forget what happened.
Scenario Three There is a 5 month old baby in the nursery of the early childhood education and care service where you work. The baby has been happy and settled since first coming to the service setting at three and a half months of age. You notice that the baby is increasingly unsettled and cries a lot more than they used to do. You address all the possible reasons the baby might be unhappy, but they still have difficulty settling when in the facility. The baby does not appear to be running a fever, but is persistently restless. You note also that they seem to have stopped smiling and cooing behavior they were showing up until last week. You suspect the child has, or has developed a barrier to learning. Q. Identify four (4) tasks you would do to pinpoint why the changes in the baby has occurred. Answer: •Determine whether the infant is teething •Measure the baby's weight change -Examine the infant's feeding patterns. •Consider the family's effect.
Scenario Four A 3.5 year old has epilepsy. They have never been away from their parents before but have been enrolled to start next week with the service provider for which you work. The child’s mother will return to part
-time work on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday each week.
Q. Provide a brief outline of what you would do to support the child’s entry to the early childhood education and care service. Answer I'll start by making children feel welcome and being able to appreciate their smiles or the outfits they're wearing. We can quickly present the service in which he or she may participate in a variety of exciting activities in the coming days. Then we may ask them a few easy questions to make them feel more at ease enough time to get to know them and introduce them to their friends
.
