SCI 100 Module Two Activity Template: Scientific Approaches and Questions
Instructions
Address the following about your chosen scientific news story. Replace the bracketed text below with your responses. Use the module overview and resources for assistance. You do not need to conduct outside research.
Part One
Identify an approach to scientific research
addressed in the chosen news story.
An approach to scientific research that is addressed in the Article is the data-focused model of technology and economics. Part Two
Draft two research questions you are interested in asking about the main idea of your news story. Ensure that both of your questions are measurable
and focused
.
When will solar power have 90% of the population of the world as current customers?
Will there be any government assistance funding dispersed for the purpose of transitioning to Solar power? If so, how much? I believe that scientists are motivated to ask “Why?” and pursue their research first by the fundamental human trait of curiosity. What drives them further can be anything from what interests them and the excitement of discovering something new to the necessity for innovating something that is no longer relevant. As Bill Nye said, “Human curiosity is how you discover things and that’s how we innovate.” and “science education is empowering.”
1.
With your response to Question 1 in mind, reflect on why you selected your news story. Respond to the following question: What was it about the news story that interested you or made you curious?
The article I chose is called w
orld may have crossed solar power 'tipping point'. The first thing that made me curious about the News article I chose was the title and wondering what kind of tipping point they are talking about. Like could there be too much solar power or is it not as beneficial as they had claimed at first, were the next two questions that popped into my head. 1
Second thing that interested me was that they were suggesting that solar power may become the primary source of energy for the world. And that makes me curious on when they estimate
solar power will become the majority of the worlds source, as well as will the other energy sources still be available or will they become obsolete. As well as will the government help fund the transition to those that cannot afford to do it themselves. References:
