Jasmin Barlow Com 321 Week 4 There are several different reasons for misunderstanding or barriers when communication with modern technology is involved. One of the reasons would be body language. The first cultural barrier that comes to mind when using modern technology is the difficulty that a video conference meeting could present if either of the present parties does not speak the same language fluently. It is already difficult to speak and understand in another language face to face but is especially challenging when you are not there in person to be able to observe body language and watch their mouth quite as well as you can in person. Another reason is slang. When communicating in a professional setting with someone from a different culture, what we say is important because it shows we are focused. But when we start talking in slang terms, they might not use slang when they are from and even might get offended if we use a certain word, they mean something completely different in their country. These two different reasons can terminate communication with potential partners in a company. Partners want to be able to trust the company they are partnering with, because communication is so extremely important. To explain how these two different misunderstandings or barriers can be avoided is simple. Be3 professional in everything you do. When you are communication pay attention to the people on the other side of the call. Even if it is a phone call, still pay attention. Another way to avoid a problem is to speak in a professional manner. Try not to speak in words that another culture will not understand or might get offended by. Both parties are after one goal and that is to communicate what needs to be done by both parties to reach an end result. f you are unfamiliar with it prior to engaging with those that you are going to communicate with abroad. While talking using video technology you could also have some translation services pulled up online adjacent to your camera where you could quickly and easily look up key words or places that maybe only locals would be familiar with. Lastly, keeping distractions to a minimum when video conferencing and making sure only the people that are
necessary and relevant to the conversation are in the room will help eliminate any type of distractions and keep attention on the task at hand, giving someone your full and undivided attention goes a long way in mutual understanding of each other.
