Task 1: Classroom Management Plan A. Classroom Management Plan 1. My future class will be a 3
rd
grade elementary class. For math lessons, I will use a combination of direct instruction and small groups. I will use direct instruction to introduce basic math concepts, work through examples, and engage in class discussions. I will then use small groups to expand on the math concepts and give students the extra support they may need. 2. I view my role as an educator to act as a facilitator of knowledge and hope to inspire my students to have a passion for learning. I believe that fostering positive relationships with my students and promoting family engagement will be key to achieving this goal. I will also strive to create a safe and supportive learning environment for all my students by addressing social-
emotional needs, cultivating a growth mindset, and celebrating diversity in my classroom. As a half-Mexican, half-American educator, I can recognize the importance of inclusion in the classroom and will be sure to incorporate diverse teaching materials into my lessons, as well as celebrate my students’ cultural backgrounds. 3. My three goals for my classroom management plan are listed below: 1.
Foster positive relationships with each of my students and their families. 2.
Create a safe and inclusive classroom community. 3.
Cultivate a growth mindset among students. 4. My students would be seated in groups of four to foster collaborative learning. Students would be seated directly in front of the whiteboard or smart screen. To the left of the student seating would be the teacher’s desk, small groups table, and storage for learning materials. To the right of the student seating would be a bulletin board, a large rug, reading chairs and cushions, and a bookshelf.
a.
The layout would remain the same for direct instruction, as all students will have a clear view of the whiteboard. For teacher-led small groups, 4-6 students would join the teacher at the small groups table while the rest of the students worked independently or with their seated group. For summative assessments, each desk could be separated and rotated towards the front of the classroom. If students are working with a partner, rather than small groups, the cluster of four desks could be separated into two pairs of two desks. 5. The two classroom routines I would establish are outlined below: 1.
Morning Greeting Circle: Each morning, students would gather on the rug where we would engage in a brief morning discussion and sharing. The first bell will signal students to quickly gather on the rug and begin the morning greeting circle. 2.
Classroom Helper: Students will rotate through different classroom jobs, where they will be responsible for a specific task within their classroom. The Classroom Helper chart will display the different jobs and student helpers for each week. a. During the first week of school, I will communicate to the students during whole group instruction about the expectations and procedure for the Morning Greeting Circle. I will display a class schedule featuring actual photos from our morning meetings. I will also discuss our Classroom Helpers during the first week of school and demonstrate the procedure for each helper job. I will display a Classroom Helper chart that details each task, provides visual examples, and shows a picture of the assigned student for that task. I will consistently implement the Classroom Helper routine through positive reinforcement and emphasis on social responsibility. 6. List three specific classroom rules: 1.
Listen when your teacher is talking. 2.
Follow directions the first time. 3.
Participate in group discussions. a. The first rule informs and supports the norm of prioritizing active listening in the classroom. When the teacher is talking, students should demonstrate active listening by looking at the teacher, putting away any distractions, and not engaging in side conversations. This rule also supports the norm of showing respect to the teacher. The second rule also informs and supports the norm of active listening and promotes a productive classroom environment. Students would be expected to follow through with given instructions without the need for reminders. This rule would additionally support the norm of holding students accountable for their behavior. The third rule informs and supports the norms of treating others with respect and engaging in inclusive communication. During group discussions, students would be encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas and demonstrate the norm of respectful communication and collaboration. b. The classroom rules will first be introduced to students during the first week of school. After introducing the classroom rules, we would engage in class discussions about creating norms

based on these rules. We would answer discuss and answer the following questions: “What does respect mean? How can you show people respect? How can you show property respect? How can you show learning respect?” The discussion of these questions would inevi
tably lead to more questions with more discussion. Once the classroom rules and norms are clearly established, I would display a visual chart that describes the rules and provides examples of the rules. I would also use positive reinforcement strategies to acknowledge students who are exceptionally following to the rules. 7. Positive reinforcement strategies I would use include specific verbal praise, positive notes home, and a class reward system. I want my verbal praise to be specific to the student and their conduct, immediately reinforcing the desirable behavior. I think sending home positive notes would be a great way to include families in the class community and reinforce positive behavior both at school and home. I would implement a class reward system where students can earn points for following rules, fostering a sense of accomplishment and teamwork. Consequences I would implement include verbal warnings and reminders of rules, loss of privileges for disruptive behavior, and parent-teacher conferences for persistent behavioral challenges. 8. All students will play an active role in creating their classroom norms and expectations, fostering a sense ownership of their behavior in the classroom. I want students to remain active participants within our classroom community through engaging in class discussions, participating during lessons, and contributing to the collective learning experience.
