The dynamics of bullying manifest in various forms, with social exclusion emerging as a prominent issue observed among students like Emily, Keisha, and Tasha. Social exclusion, characterized by deliberate isolation from social activities or groups, inflicts emotional harm, as seen in the interactions where Emily and Keisha intermittently ostracize Tasha, causing her to feel unwelcome and isolated. Research underscores the detrimental effects of social exclusion on victims' mental and emotional well-being, highlighting its significance as a form of relational bullying. To address this, proactive measures centered on promoting inclusivity, empathy, and respect are paramount. By establishing clear classroom norms and fostering a supportive environment where students feel valued and respected, educators can combat social exclusion and cultivate a culture of 6

acceptance and belonging. Integrating biblical principles such as love, kindness, and forbearance provides a guiding framework for fostering positive peer relationships and creating a nurturing classroom environment that promotes holistic student development while reducing instances of bullying. 1 st Type of Bullying: Social Exclusion In the provided scenario, social exclusion is evident in the interactions among Emily, Keisha, and Tasha. Emily and Keisha intermittently ostracize Tasha, displaying cruelty when they lose interest in her. Despite initially appearing to get along with Tasha, their behavior shifts once they grow tired of her, leading to exclusion from activities, ignorance, and derogatory comments (Burden, 2020). This deliberate exclusion results in Tasha feeling isolated and unwelcome in the classroom. Examples: 1. Emily and Keisha exclude Tasha from group activities when they no longer find her interesting. 2. They ignore Tasha or make derogatory comments about her appearance, intelligence, or background. 3. Tasha is subjected to inconsistent levels of acceptance and rejection by Emily and Keisha, leading to emotional turmoil and insecurity. Research: Research by Redmond (2022) identifies social exclusion as a form of relational bullying with severe psychological and emotional consequences for the victim. It can lead to feelings of loneliness, depression, and low self-esteem. By citing this research, we understand why social exclusion qualifies as bullying and its negative impact on students' well-being. 7
Solution 1. Establish clear classroom norms and expectations promoting inclusivity and respect for all students. 2. Facilitate activities and discussions encouraging empathy, cooperation, and appreciation for diversity. Reflection As a result of implementing these solutions, I expect to see: Increased collaboration and cooperation among students, with fewer instances of exclusionary behavior and greater empathy and understanding among students, leading to a more positive classroom atmosphere characterized by mutual respect and supportiveness. 2 nd Type of Bullying: Verbal Bullying The second type of bullying observed in the scenario is verbal bullying, which involves the use of spoken or written words to harm, intimidate, or humiliate others. Emily and Keisha engage in verbal cruelty towards Tasha, displaying hurtful behavior through derogatory comments or insults targeting her appearance, intelligence, or background. This behavior aims to undermine Tasha's self- esteem and assert dominance over her. Examples: 1. Emily and Keisha mock Tasha's appearance, intelligence, or background with derogatory comments or insults (Burden, 2020). 2. Verbal attacks are used to belittle Tasha and assert superiority over her in social interactions. Research: 8
According to Redmond (2022), verbal bullying is one of the most prevalent forms of bullying in schools and can have significant negative effects on the victim's mental and emotional well-being. It can lead to anxiety, depression, and academic difficulties. This research highlights the importance of addressing verbal bullying in the classroom. Solutions: 1. Implement proactive measures aimed at promoting respectful communication and fostering empathy among students (Burden, 2020). 2. Establish clear consequences for verbal bullying and empower bystanders to intervene and report instances of hurtful behavior. Reflection: Implementing these solutions is expected to result in: Observable changes in student interactions and communication patterns (Mark 12, ESV), including a decrease in derogatory language or insults. As well as greater awareness among students of the impact of their words and increased empathy towards their peers, contributing to a more positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere where all students feel valued and respected (Burden, 2020). 9
