4 3-1 Journal: Self-Presentation Challenge The purpose of this presentation is to establish a positive and professional impression, while also allowing others to connect with me on a more personal level. Part II In the second part of this exercise, I had a co-worker review my Facebook profile. He was required to be unbiased. I asked him to describe me solely on the basis of my social media profiles. We have a very professional relationship so I felt this would help be a good person to ask. He described my profile as very informative. He said that my profile gave him a good insight into my personality and character. He was impressed by the amount of detail I had included in my profiles, and he found it very helpful in getting to know me better. He also found my profile picture to be appropriate and professional. For the most part he describes me the way I wanted to be perceived. However, in his analysis of my social media he described me in a way I did not intend. According to him, I am very social, which is something I disagree with. That tells me that social media perceptions can be misleading and not reflective of reality. It's important to be aware of how our online presence affects our real-life relationships. Therefore, I will make changes to my profile in order to be more conscious of how I present myself and how my profile can be interpreted. In terms of my online presence, I'd like it to reflect more of my professional side than my social side. 4
