Write: In your initial post, discuss the four different areas that a leader needs to address. Deborah Ancona in the video MIT Sloan: Professor on 'The 4 Capabilities of Leadership' Links to an external site. explains how you as a leader or how the leader of your organization can address these areas: Visioning Relating Inventing Sensemaking Make sure your post is more than 200 words and that you include a brief quote or paraphrase the video reading material where appropriate (see the Writing Center’s Quoting, Paraphrasing, & Summarizing Links to an external site. guide for assistance with in-text citations). A leader must be concerned with four distinct areas. Creating, relating, innovating, and sensemaking are some of these domains. One way to communicate the company's values to others is through visioning . It confirms that the corporation maintains a "we" stance rather than a "me" stance and highlights to the staff what potential chances may arise in the future (Financial Times, 2010, 4:05). A leader needs to be able to connect with those outside of their organization as well as those who are following them. A leader can do this by being approachable and comforting at all times. A leader is frequently out of sight, which ultimately ensures anarchy. Keeping the leader in mind helps to keep things efficient and gives the others confidence that they have someone to turn to in case of an emergency (Financial Times, 2010, 2:14). We all want creativity—not just as followers, but also as leaders. It creates a congenial work environment and gives employees a sense of voice when a leader can trust those behind them to come up with creative solutions for everyday problems (Financial Times, 2010, 5:13). Lastly, a good leader needs to have the ability of sensemaking. Sensemaking is the process by which a leader opens up to their environment and let's go of their own thoughts. After gaining knowledge of the situation in the area they are responsible for, they construct a model and a map showing the necessary modifications and their proposed course of action. By doing this, you can make sure that everyone is aware of the jobs that need to be completed and those that have been assigned to them. (Financial Times, 2010, 0:44).
