My SMART goal is to get better at communicating with coworkers and my supervisor by
May 1, 2021, which is five weeks from now.
The objective is particular in that I am concentrating on enhancing my communication
abilities, which is pertinent to my current position and the workplace. I've established a
quantifiable objective to receive feedback from my team and supervisor in order to monitor my
progress. I can schedule frequent meetings with my team members and boss to get helpful input,
so I know I can accomplish this objective. I can relate to this personal development objective
since I find that receiving feedback at work is crucial. To be successful in what I do, I also need
to maintain or develop my communication abilities. There are also five-week time constraints
attached to this aim, which will enable me to assess my work within that period and adjust the
project as necessary.
The input I get from my manager and team members will assist me in pinpointing my
strongest communication areas and any areas where I could be falling short. I may use this
feedback to sharpen my communication abilities and get suggestions on how to handle any
communication-related problems I may have at work. I want to use the comments to sharpen my
written communication skills for creating emails, reports, and presentations, as well as my
spoken communication skills for speaking in front of bigger gatherings.
I understand the value of communication and believe it is critical to my success at work
(Nilsen et al., 2020). I want to use this chance to become the greatest version of myself and to
work on my communication abilities. I want to use the PDCA approach to assist me reach my
objective by helping me become a better communicator.
In the Plan phase, I establish a SMART goal to improve my communication skills at work
and devise a strategy for obtaining feedback. This involves setting up frequent meetings with my
team members and supervisor to hear their thoughts on my communication style at work. It also
entails allocating specific time to enhancing my communication skills and investigating
communication-related topics.
Putting the strategy into action is part of the Do phase. This entails having frequent
meetings with my team members and supervisor in order to establish rapport and get feedback. It
also entails carrying out any necessary follow-up to enhance my communication abilities, such
investigating areas for improvement and completing any tasks that I have identified.
Reviewing the criticism I have had and the advancements I have made in my
communication abilities are part of the Check phase. This entails reviewing the input I've had in
the past and determining what is good and what needs improvement. I can also utilize the
feedback to keep identifying the things I need to do to get better at communicating at work.
Making the required changes to strengthen my communication abilities is part of the Act
phase. This entails carrying out any recommended measures, such as looking into
communication strategies and incorporating them into my own. It also entails considering the
criticism I've heard and determining how to go with enhancing my communication.
I will be able to monitor my progress and, ideally, become a more effective
communicator at work by finishing all four PDCA cycle phases and establishing a SMART
objective to enhance my communication abilities.
