What are the primary benefits of family involvement in schools? Firstly, family involvement enhances academic performance. When parents or caregivers actively engage in their child's education, it instills a sense of responsibility and motivation within the student (Bernstein et al, 2017). This heightened motivation often translates into enhanced attendance, improved grades, and a more positive outlook towards the educational process. Family involvement fosters the creation of a closely-knit and supportive school community. Through their participation in school activities and events, parents become integral members, facilitating the cultivation of trust, cooperation, and a shared commitment to the child's growth and development (Bernstein et al, 2017). This collaboration between educators and families can significantly influence a student's educational journey. What are some ways that you can increase family involvement in your school? Firstly, I can increase family involvement in school by establishing consistent and open communication channels. Moreover, I could organize workshops and seminars that educate parents on how to support their child's learning at home can be highly effective (Bernstein et al, 2017). Lastly, I will foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere within the school community that encourages parents to participate actively. Question: What challenges have you faced (or what challenges do you anticipate facing) in trying to increase family involvement? One of the challenges I have faced faced in trying to increase family involvement is langiage barrier. It hinders effective communication with non-English-speaking parents. Secondly, parents
are busy or unwilling to participate ins chool activities increasing the difficulty of family involvement. Additionally, some parents may not be familiar with the intricacies of the educational system, which can deter their active involvement. If a student’s family will/cannot get involved at school, what could you do to support the student? In scenarios where a student's family faces challenges in getting involved at school, I can work to provide alternative avenues of support within the school environment. I can push the school to offer mentoring programs, tutoring services, and access to counseling resources for students lacking familial support. These initiatives ensure that the student's academic and emotional needs are met effectively within the school community. By offering a comprehensive support system, schools can mitigate the impact of limited family involvement on a student's educational journey. Reference Bernstein, A. Cs., Levin, D. U., Gut, G.
