Report
The Comprehensive Intervention Model (CIM) is a well-coordinated and systemic approach to providing instructional interventions for students struggling with reading and writing. It aims to reverse reading failures by combining differentiated classroom instruction with supplemental interventions in small group and one-to-one settings (Dorn et al., 2021). The CIM is designed to address the needs of students in two waves: Wave 1 focuses on grades K-3, while Wave 2 targets grades 4-12 Key Comprehensive Intervention Model Components: The CIM uses a multi-tiered education method with several interventions to meet students' requirements. Guided reading plus, aided writing, the writing process, and comprehension focus groups are essential to the CIM's entire approach (Dorn et al., 2021). CIM emphasizes ongoing teacher professional development. Intervention teachers get specific training and assistance from Reading Recovery teacher leaders and literacy coaches. This equips teachers to help struggling readers (Dorn et al., 2021). Interventions within the CIM aim to build self-regulated, strategic readers and writers. These well-designed programs target oral language development, phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension methods, fluency, and writing. Based on what I learned in this course, the Comprehensive Intervention Model is suitable for addressing the needs of struggling readers and writers. Here are some reasons: The CIM systematically approaches literacy development since reading and writing problems need a concerted effort. The CIM uses research-based interventions and teacher professional development to improve a school's success profile and teachers' ability to educate challenging students. The CIM also emphasizes individualized education, acknowledging students' unique needs and the need for personalized solutions. Layered interventions in the CIM allow students
to get customized help for their challenges. The CIM recognizes the complexity of reading and writing and encourages self-regulated, strategic readers and writers. The CIM teaches pupils how to tackle literacy problems by covering phonics, comprehension, and writing (Dorn et al., 2021)
