Developing a Strategic Communication Plan
A well-thought-out communication strategy is required to place the information exchange
into proper perspective. Through the communication strategy, stakeholders and partners can offer
input and come to a consensus about the optimal course of action (1). This paper shows how I
would develop and carry out a comprehensive communication strategy to address concerns
raised by the community in the wake of a high-profile incident involving the use of force by an
officer from my department.
Conducting Research and Interpreting Situational Analysis
The management will analyze the circumstance, the audience, and the program. A logical
approach will be used to the study, which will be carried out via a survey. The deductive method
is useful for articulating a problem based on a theoretical basis and collecting evidence since it
helps to draw logical conclusions (2). The formulation of the research topic and hypotheses
comes next in the process. After this step, the next step is to create a study strategy before
moving on to the data gathering stage. In the end, the findings are analyzed, and the findings
themselves are disseminated to the proper audiences.
To conduct a situational analysis, it will be necessary to investigate several elements
likely to affect the strategic communication strategy. The interpretation of the analysis will
include putting the data into perspective by comparing the actual results with the expected
outcomes, doing administrative work, and providing a thorough explanation of how people feel
about the plan based on its positive and negative aspects.
Goals and Objectives
Implementing a strategic communication plan has several goals, the major one of which
is to improve the agency's reputation to improve the connection between the local police
3
department and the general population in the community. It is possible to achieve this goal by
providing information to the broader public to increase awareness, improve understanding, and
garner support. Another objective is to broaden locals' participation in initiatives emphasizing
community policing and safety.
The Target Group
The agency's strategic communication strategy has a variety of audiences, including the
local society and parents. The ability of the agency to successfully connect with community
groups and secure their support is necessary since community organizations play an important
part in ensuring the area's safety. When it comes to keeping their children safe and away from
potentially dangerous situations, parents are up against a formidable obstacle.
Proposed Communication strategies
As a result of the fact that community organizations and parents are the focal points of
the communication strategy, having face-to-face engagements is essential for effectively
communicating information to the public and obtaining direct input from that group. Face-to-
face conversations will be led by the police chief, who is an excellent communicator. Social
media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook will also be used to reach a wider audience.
Four main steps in the strategic communication plan.
There are four primary stages included in the strategic communication strategy. Research
and situational analysis will be the first step in designing a strategic communication plan for the
law enforcement agency. This stage will include communication audits, a review of press
attention, and surveys (1). The second stage is determining the police force's aims and
quantifiable objectives. The third step is to determine the demographics of the target audience.
Once the target audience has been determined, the agency will have a clearer idea of formulating

messages and establishing communication channels with the desired audience. The final step is
determining the communication tactics employed to engage with the various audiences,
including verbal, nonverbal, and visual communication (1).
