EDUC 410 IIP P ROJECT : P ROPOSAL A SSIGNMENT I NSTRUCTIONS O VERVIEW In this course, you will learn to plan instruction through an interdisciplinary and culturally responsive lens by connecting your planning to researched best practices. Your project is a 20- day interdisciplinary instructional unit plan that is content-focused and connects to reading and writing across the curriculum. Your unit plan will consist of twenty separate lesson plans that instruct the unit from beginning to end, with the first ten days’ lesson plans being in full lesson plan format and the final ten days being in horizontal planning chart format (i.e., block-style plans). This project is divided into smaller pieces, or assignments, to be submitted across the term. I NSTRUCTIONS 1. Read through the Interdisciplinary Instructional Planning Overview document provided with this assignment to become familiar with the full scope of the overall project. 2. Download the provided Interdisciplinary Instructional Planning Project: Proposal Template and use it to plan the overall unit topic and standards you will cover in your project. Each lesson plan you create for this project will require the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) to be identified. For English/Language Arts and Math content areas, Common Core State Standards must also be identified in addition to the Virginia Standards of Learning . Choose and write the specific state standard your lesson is based on, including the number, letter, and description. Links to the Virginia Standards of Learning and Common Core State Standards have been provided with this assignment. 3. In the Instructional Ideas column of the template, draft your instructional ideas for each discipline and/or the content standards you have identified. You do not need to have all your instructional activities decided at this point; this is simply an opportunity to brainstorm and document ideas. You may use bullet points or lists to record your ideas. a. For Technology Integration , list at least three specific strategies with various technological tools. b. For Differentiated Learning , list ideas for supporting students with special needs, challenging above-average learners, extension for students who finish work quickly, and culturally responsive teaching that considers diversity and equity. c. For Assessments , list ideas for diagnostic/pre-assessment, formative daily assessments, and summative post-assessment. d. For Community Engagement , list ideas for a culminating activity in which families will be invited to the classroom to participate in the interdisciplinary instructional unit you designed. Your ideas must be student-centered, engaging, and culturally responsive. 4. For the Connections to Research, Theory, and Best Practice area of the template, list 5–6 professional journal article references on topics such as instructional strategies (e.g., cooperative learning, graphic organizers, questioning strategies, mind maps, etc.), Page 1 of 2
