2 Planning Document Final Draft My issue: I have chosen for my research the question of " What foods are most commonly found to be the cause of excessive cancer growth?". Many different people have different diets and I would like to learn what foods are more likely to cause cancer cells to rapidly grow throughout the body. This topic is significant to me as I have had different family members pass from various forms of cancers as well as I have been seen by specialists for possible cancer on my thyroid. I want to have a better understanding on what types of chemical components such as sugars, fats, and dyes are leading causes for cancer growth within the body. My question: What chemical components in foods can cause the growth of cancer cells? My science resources: 1. The title of my first source is Beyond Sugar: What cancer cells need to grow . I chose this source because it discusses what types of foods and chemical components such as sugars have an impact on cancer growth and provides credible studies to help provide details on why these foods are bad for your body as well as how it affects cancer growth. I think it's appropriate for my research because it allows me to have a better understanding and provides studies done by scientists on this topic. This topic also provides information on what foods are good for slowing down cancer growth. This source will help me be able to apply more studies to my research. 2. My second source is titled "6 foods that may increase your risk for cancer." I chose this topic because it backs up information that is provided in the first source and also provides credible studies done to help confirm the facts of the information. I think this topic is
3 relevant to my research because it is credible information done through studies to help determine what is causing cancer growth. This article is created by a doctor that discusses cancer cells and the effects of foods with chemical components that can cause the growth of cancer cells. 3. The title of my third source is " Foods that fuel the growth of cancer cells." I chose this topic because it continues the discussion and provides references on what types of foods can be leading causes for different types of cancer growth. This source is relevant because it helps determine more information on what types of foods to avoid if you are having general health issues and fear that it might be cancer. This source is like the others because it provides information on how different types of foods are bad for you and how it can cause the growth of cancer. My audience and message: I would like to present my presentation to audiences involving people who are struggling or know someone struggling with cancer, lost people to cancer, or are interested in a healthier lifestyle to prevent the growth of cancer. I will tailor my work to not be so scientific and allow the information to be easy to absorb. By talking to someone as a friend, I feel that it will allow me to make a physical connection with the audience and intrigue them to listen to my presentation more. This information can be provided to others in a less scientific manner and be easily explained. Identify principles: Cancer is a mutation of cells within the human body that people have suffered from for years in many different forms. This topic ties into biology because it is discussing the mutation of cells and talking about chemical components within food that are not good for cancer cells and what foods are fueling cancer cells.

4 Explain principles: This principle discusses how cancer cells grow and discuss the biology behind the mutations of the cells and what mutations of cells cause cancer. It also discusses how the chemistry of certain foods are fueling or killing cancer cells and allows me to look deeper into the chemical components of what makes a food fuel for cancer cells. This will allow me to have a better understanding on what types of foods to avoid during my possible thyroid scare and allow me to better understand what types of foods are allowing the growth of cells. My experimental question and hypothesis: to know if there is a way to avoid foods that are heavily saturated with these components that can cause possible cancer cells to grow more rapidly. The experimental question that can be asked is "What components that are found in food feed cancer cell growth?" Foods that contain components such as sugar can cause a rise in different chemicals in your body such as glucose can cause the body to have a spike in this chemical and lead to risk of various forms of cancer to grow. My explanation: To determine what components that are found within food that people are ingesting, the food will need to be tested. Once the food is tested, a study could be conducted to determine if the chemical found in food can cause cancer cells to survive and grow or kill off cancer cells. Once studies are conducted, we can determine what types of foods are high in components that cause cancer cell growth and provide this information to allow people who are worried about their health and are battling cancer to avoid these foods and reduce the growth of cancer cells.
