Module Ten Lesson Two Assignment Two 13 13 unread replies. 26 26 replies. The human body is a very sensitive system that works off of very complex chemical reactions. Blood has a narrow range of pH in which it can operate (7.35 - 7.45 for the average person). This makes the blood a slightly basic solution. Breathing affects the pHof your blood. Carbon dioxide gas when dissolved in water (which is in blood) creates a weak acid named carbonic acid. Please answer the following questions in your post, using terms and concepts learned in this module. 1. What happens to the pH of your blood when you hold your breath? 2. What happens to the pH of your blood when you hyperventilate, and why? 3. During a cardiac arrest a person stops breathing. One of the first things that a paramedic or the emergency room does is to inject sodium hydrogen carbonate (baking soda) into the patient. Is baking soda an acid or a base? Why do you think this is protocol? 4. Do you think what you eat or drink can affect the pH of your blood? Why or why not? Also respond to someone else's post to this question, agreeing or disagreeing with her/his post (politely) and explaining why. Post #1 - 80 pts
