SPD 570 Topic 1 DQ 3 As teachers, we spend so much time collecting data, but too often it is not used effectively. Some strategies for understanding our students’ learning styles: Formative assessments such as: exit tickets, quizzes, kahoots, thumbs up/thumbs down, are great ways to determine how students are doing and if they are getting what they need. Observations provide tons of information. For example: o What role do they take in groups? o What type of assignments do they choose when given options? o What assignments do they do better on? Student interviews and goal setting. Goals setting is extremely important for building student buy-in. Students need to communicate what they need to reach their goals and how they can achieve them. This also helps motivate students because they are an active member in their education (Alber, 2011). References: Alber, R. (2011). 3 Ways Student Data can Inform Your Teaching. Edutopia.
