2 For this scenario, I bounced around with different ideas. I thought of substance abuse, child abuse and neglect, and obesity. All of these issues could possibly be something I work with so I decided to go with child abuse and this is the scenario:  The Ricardo family consists of the mother Laura (29), the older brother Richie (16), the middle brother Luis (13) and the youngest Frannie (2). Laura is raising the children on her own because the dad Felipe (32) is currently in prison doing 10 years for assault. This family has been referred to ACS by a pediatrician after the youngest daughter Frannie who is 2 years old has been found with signs of sexual and physical abuse. The little girl was found with bruises on her back and bottom. The family is low-income and recently got evicted from their apartment and has been staying with a friend of Laura’s. Laura works to provide for her children and her friend and friend’s husband watch Frannie while Laura is at work. One day when Laura returned from work, she noticed Frannie wouldn’t move from her bed and when she went to change the girl, she saw bleeding in her diaper and marks on the girl. Laura had since moved from the friend’s home and had to quit her job and move into a shelter. There is an open case and the police have gotten involved. Laura now must figure out how to support her family through this tough time. Agency: The agency I want to work for is a non-profit called Safe Horizon. Safe Horizon has always been an agency I have been interested in because of the work they do. This agency helps survivors (they do not call them victims) of different types of violence (domestic violence, child abuse, human trafficking, etc.). I want to be a case manager at this agency and work with children and survivors of domestic violence.

3 Case Management Models: For this scenario, there are two models I am thinking of using, the brokerage case management model and the clinical case management model. The brokerage case management model focuses on evaluating the needs of clients and referring them to services while supervising their progress (Planstreet, 2021). Laura is now unemployed and homeless, which makes it difficult for her to care for her children. A caseworker can help Laura with finding employment and a place for her and her family to live. Laura will likely be hesitant to leave Frannie alone so she will need referrals for therapy. Since Frannie is so young, it is important to watch her and support her through her trauma, so she doesn’t end up with long-term issues. The clinical case management model provides therapeutic services to clients and provides them with a care plan to help them deal with their mental health and crisis intervention (Planstreet, 2021). Getting this family therapy is crucial in helping them deal with the trauma they endured and will be helpful to unite the family.
