Have you ever worked with a leader who possessed some of the characteristics Greenleaf ascribes to the servant-leader? Yes, my current manager possess the qualities outlined in the article. She who works tirelessly to assist us. She also possesses a strong sense of purpose and is able to inspire and mobilize others to achieve a shared vision. 2. Is the present-day world too jaded for the notion of servant-leadership? It is not clear if the present-day world is too jaded for the notion of servant-leadership, as it is a subjective question that depends on one's perspective. This approach can be applied in various settings, including businesses, organizations, and communities. Ultimately, whether or not the present-day world is too jaded for servant-leadership is a matter of perspective and depends on the willingness of individuals and organizations to adopt this mindset and implement its principles. 3. Do you see in yourself any of the qualities Greenleaf describes? I do see the qualities in myself especially the ability to having a strong sense of purpose. As this is my second undergraduate degree I definitely feel more sense of purpose which drives towards goals. 4. How can you develop or enhance these qualities? By setting a clear vision, and clearly communicating it to the team and stakeholders and by providing opportunities for learning and development, and by recognizing and rewarding the achievements of others. 5. Are these qualities innate or can they be learned? It is important to note that while some people may be more predisposed to certain traits, these qualities can be learned and developed through practice and effort. For example, someone who struggles with empathy can work to develop this trait by actively listening to and engaging with others, and trying to understand their needs and perspectives.
Additionally, some qualities may be more culture specific, which means that they may be developed more easily in certain cultures than in others. For example, humility is a trait more appreciated in some cultures than in others.
