CYB 320 Professor William Spettmann Emily Brooks 3/24/2024 Project One Stepping Stone Two Scenario One: A. A short-term solution would be to ask employees if they have access to personal laptops and allow them to work from home. Another solution would be to purchase new laptops or desktops and have portable trailers come to the location for employees to use until the office is repaired. This would allow the employees that do not have personal laptops to still be able to work and also if certain employees work with sensitive data that is not allowed on their personal computers. B. A short-term solution for processes and hardware would be to have operations fall to an offsite server that can sync every week. Another thing would be to see what was damaged and replace it as quickly as possible. If things had to be repaired maybe see if the company repairing the device will send a spare until the original is fixed. C. A failover solution would be to have an operation in place where they automatically switch to standby site or system when the primary fails. A cluster would activate a
standby server if the primary server were to encounter failure. If the operation was not in place we could still get a cluster and back it up with the latest server images. D. My first concern would be availability because the sprinkler system caused the damage to a lot of physical hardware a lot of data or hardware would not be available. Confidentiality would be my second concern because if all systems are down there are no safeguards and outsiders may or may not be able to access information. So, I would want to scan everything as soon as everything came back up. Integrity would be third for me because if no one in the company can even access the data then they cannot really alter or modify it. Scenario Two: A. A short-term solution would be to set up and give the employee an entire new computer, whether that be a laptop or desktop, and remove USB access from that new computer. If there is not another computer available and it has to be ordered, I would suggest they use their personal device and work from home. B. A short-term solution would be to remove the device from the network and follow security protocol to properly ensure that no malware or viruses were added to the device. Also ensuring that no data was damaged or stolen and no one hacked it so they would have access to the main servers of the company. I would take the extra step and wipe the computer once everything needed was removed to ensure that the device is completely clean before putting it back onto the network. C. A failover solution would be to either have the employee work from home on their personal laptop or if we need to work on the device at their desk, just have them move to an empty space with their new or personal device. Depending on their job having a new
device would benefit the employee more because they would just be able to log into their account and continue their work with their data on their profile. D. The first CIA triad I would be concerned about would be integrity because I would want to ensure that the data is real, accurate, and safeguarded and was not affected in any way. The second would be confidentiality because sensitive data needs to be protected and I would want to make sure that no one had access to it and that it was untouched by a virus or malware. Availability would be my last one because after ensuring confidentiality and integrity then that would ensure that the system is protected from failures and malicious attacks.
