Jonna Walker HRM 225-H7561 Module 7 Project Two Date: February 26, 2023 To: Manager From: HRM Subject: Risk Audit After reviewing the company handbook, I have concluded that there are several errors and policies that should be revised. We need to ensure that each policy in the handbook is easy to understand and thoroughly explained while also making sure to not violate policies from the Department of Labor and Wages. In my findings, there were a lot of statements that were contradictory which will have to be corrected. Included in this memo is the Risk Audit which I have ranked the discrepancies from High to Low risk. While reviewing policies in the handbook that seemed incomplete or inaccurate, I have determined how these risks will affect the business. The higher the risk, the worse the consequences are for the company. These statements violate policies from the Department of Labor and Wages and must be corrected immediately before we get reported. If not corrected immediately, we risk being sued which would cost the company a lot of time, money, and resources. The higher the risk, the higher the amount that we could possibly be sued. Not only
will we be sued, but we also face the risk of creating a hostile work environment among, not only employees and managers, but also among other employees as well. As a part of the HR department, we have an important role when it comes to risk management. When we spot risks and errors in business policies, we work fast to correct them before any legal problems or other issues result from them. Not only can it be a situation with the handbook, but also with the employees that work for us. If the issues in the handbook and our policies are not corrected it could cause problems within the workforce. It can cause our company to have a questionable morale and eventually we will find it hard to find employees who will want to work for us. Not to mention, a quicker turnaround time for the existing employees. This issue could also hurt the company culture and reputation, too, if not corrected. With a hostile environment, the company will be undesirable to work for. This also causes a faster turnaround rate in existing employees because the satisfaction in their jobs will decrease, and they would eventually find a company who would value them better. With nobody willing to work for us and our existing employees quitting because of the hostility in the workplace, the company could be at risk for going out of business.
