Jonna Walker October 20, 2022 Joyce Busch BUS-210-Q1127 Having good leadership skills and superior and unique leadership styles can not only make a good leader, but also a successful one. After reflecting what I have learned in this course, I have learned a lot about my leadership style and skills, as well as being both a leader and follower. I have learned what I have what it takes to be both a good leader and a successful one, as well as being a good follower, too. Based on my Leadership Style Self-Assessment, my leadership style leans more towards being that of a democratic or participative style. This means, I will be able to build trust between my team and I by being a leader to my team instead of simply telling them what to do. This helps my team feel engaged in making business decisions and valued by the company and me. With this style of leadership, I can involve the team in decisions for the business, but also gives me the final say in the process. This helps me as a leader by getting insight on the workplace on issues I may not be aware of, as well as help the company by providing important information to help improve the quality of production and increase employee satisfaction. I intend on using this style to help gain the trust of my team and get them involved in decision making for my business. Being able to both lead and follow when working as part of a team is important because, you can not only empower your team by being a good leader, but you are also susceptible to listening to your team about issues and concerns in the company. By being a good leader to your followers, you provide them the knowledge and resources to help them execute actions on their
own. This allows them to not only be more independent and confident in the role in the business, but helps them grow in their position, too. By being a good follower, especially as a leader, it helps you gain insight on your team’s strengths and weaknesses. It also helps you gain knowledge of better way to do or run things because someone working as a follower may have a better way of doing a task that can potentially help increase production. My primary leadership skills, based off the self-assessment, are openness and conscientiousness. Traits such as openness help me lead my team by being open to change and being optimistic about new things. This also means I have high creative energy, which as a boutique owner is important to have when promoting one’s personal brand, new products, and sales. Having high conscientiousness as a leader will help me lead my team by being highly thoughtful and consistent when it comes to commitments and meeting times. It also means, as a leader and business owner, I pay close attention to detail and means I am very well organized. One skill that I wish to improve would be neuroticism. One way I could improve this score could be by being less defensive towards critical feedback and try to remain calm under pressure. In conclusion, overall, I have the skills and leadership style to not only make me a good leader, but a successful one. It is important as a leader to have good qualities in order to become successful as a leader. After taking this course and doing the self-assessments, I am very pleased with my results.
