3 Introduction Hello, my name is Sandra cuevas and I am completing an internship with a local construction company that has expressed possibility of hiring me after graduation. For this job recommendation I was asked to evaluate and submit a report of my findings and recommendations on the One World Trade Center construction project. The information that I will provide you with is on the One World Trade Center construction project including team members. So, within this project I will be evaluating the five project phases that include the following: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and control, and closure with creditable information and resources on the One World Trade Center Construction project.

4 Initiating the Project With the building of the new One World Trade Center their goal is to honor the victims of 9/11.Their main goal with this project is to build the largest building in the Western Hemisphere in the quickest most efficient way making it look clean, strong, monumental as possible and that means making it look as simple as possible. For development they will use innovative technologies and techniques throughout the engineering process but still following all building codes. With the help from Skidmore & Ownings Merrill designing the building, WSP engineering it, and Tishman Construction building destruction will be a team effort. Project team below: Name Role/ Company Identify their Project Team responsibility? Example: John Smith Planner- Smith Co. Headed up the construction equipment dept. Steve Plate Deputy Chief of Capital Planning and Director/ WTC Construction Head of project, responsible for all aspects of this project redevelopment Judith Dupre’ Writer and Official Biographer / World Trade Center Document the planning and progress of new World Trade Center for beginning to end Mike Mennella Executive Vice President of World Trade Center Projects/ Tishman Construction Overseer of the contractors on project and transportation hub T.J. Gottesdiener Managing Partner/ Played leading role in the planning, design, and construction
5 Skidmore Owings & Merrill Ahmad Rahimian Director of Building Structures/ WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff Helped make the plans to reconstruct a safe futuristic cost-effective building Yorman Eilon Vice President Building Structures/ WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff Inspected the structure insurance of safety and public wants. Eric Engelhardt Vice President of leasing One World Trade Center/ The Durst Organization The overseer of the new tenants Week 3: Planning the Project When it comes to the construction of the One World Trade Center the strategic considerations that were taken when this project was constructed are as followed. The structure was a hybrid concrete and steel structure with a massive extremely strong concrete core. Making this structure the safest tallest building with technical and safe structural engineering with 45,000 times of structural steel six times more than the Eiffel Tower and 200,000 cubic yards of concrete. This design had efficiency 71 elevators and five express cars located inside with movement at 23 mph been taken 42 seconds to reach the highest level floor102. The purpose of this new structure was to make sure it was safer than the earlier model due to due the horror on 9/11. The secondary aspects that were incorporated during this construction are as followed. First, an observation deck design like an Octagon was incorporated so the glass triangles can reflect light like a kaleidoscope. The glass windows had five different thicknesses ranging from 1 and 3/8 inch to 1and 27/32 inch. This was designed for blast resistance with a system of high strength anchors and reinforced glass components. There was also the light beam that could be seen as far as 50 miles away. This was the placement of a traditional clock or flag on the new One World Trade Center. This new structure is guaranteed the safety of the employees of the new One World Trade Center and a remembrance of the 9/11victims attack with a memorial put in place. Week 4: Executing the Project
6 The team members on the reconstruction of the World Trade Center explains the urgency of the construction. This was due to the 9/11 attacks that people describe as putting a hole in their heart. From watching the video, the elements that are associated with directing/managing I would say inspiration, leadership, and supervision which could also be associated with controlling/monitoring. There is also communication, planning and organization associated with directing/managing. The elements associated to the Quality Assurance aspect would be assuring, providing, classification, and protection. The elements that are associated with team management would be communication, teamwork, collaboration, accuracy, effectiveness, and motivation. The elements that are associated with project communication I would say the strategic planning and merchandise expansion. During this project there were factors that could have a direct effect on the project with regards to it being on time, on task, and on budget. The difference between years with the build, design, real estate, and over most projects take time to make decisions. There were problems with the weather and other natural reasons, like intense winds and bad visibility days slowing down the steelwork and other building components not being able to lift upwards towards the building. For this project it was a massive undertaking, and they ensured their budget was in consideration when they incorporated the new safety features. Years ago, the building codes were more lenient compared to the set codes, so improvements had to done. This project was closely watched within all aspects and from the results came a stunning sleek and minimalistic design that was achieved.
