Hospital Application: Regulatory Agencies Trisha Dutrow Grand Canyon University: HCA – 460 Professor Thacker January 12, 2024
Hospital Application: Regulatory Agencies 1) How does the Vice President of Human Resources stay abreast of current and future government agency rulings that affect the hospital? It is important that the Vice President of Human Resources follow the government legislation proceedings accordingly and closely. Good communication goes a long way, having good communication with the hospital’s attorneys is extremely important to ensure that there is a full understanding of regulations and expectations. “When a law is passed by congress it rarely has enough specifications that helps with guiding implementation (ANA, 2017.). The federal administrative agencies are responsible for filling in the missing details with rules and regulations of new and amended laws (ANA, 2017). To ensure that the Vice President of Human Resources is up to date or regulations and expectations is by signing up for the Federal Register and ensuring that they are reviewing the Code of Federal Regulations. 2) 2. How are the medical coding and billing functions affected? What training and development are needed? When it comes to documenting reimbursements from government payers, having detailed medical coding and billing functions is important. It is necessary to prove qualitatively and quantitatively. It is necessary to show that the hospital is spending approximately 80% of all reimbursements on patient treatments (HRAS, n.d.). The hospital is using the remaining 20% of all reimbursements for administrative costs and profits if there is any at the time funds are available (HRAS, n.d.).
3) 3. How and where does the Vice President of Human Resources find methodologies for remaining in compliance with the agencies? Guides that are provided by government agencies can be useful to ensure that the Vice President of Human Resources is being compliant with regulations. Some agencies send out emails of periodicals to help ensure that the hospitals are staying current with all updated regulations. 4) 4. Why did the hospital administrator choose the Vice President of Human Resources to perform these new duties? Why not the Vice President of Accounting? When someone is working in Human Resources, they have a better understanding of employees than most managers do. The Vice President of Human Resources is responsible for performing new duties to help demonstrate how to engage with employees. Engaging with employees ensures that Vice President is listening to their employees and helping with building good teamwork. According to the scenario it seems that the administration has more confidence in Human Resources than of the accounting.
