Rosa Diaz-Martinez EAD 505-Education Law Topic 2 – Principal Interview I had the advantage of interviewing past and current administrators and comparing their responses to what has made them great leaders today and in the past. My interview process was very rewarding, and it was a great opportunity to familiarize myself with the various aspects of principals and assistant principals in their individual roles as educational leaders. Each person that I interviewed gave me an amazing amount of information that I can utilize in my quest to become an administrator in a school of my own. The key aspects of my interviews were the various reasons that inspired administrators to become educational leaders. From getting a full ride on a soccer scholarship to taking out a second mortgage on their home that would enable them to make a difference with meaning for students that needed to know that they mattered. Another key aspect of my interview process was the various dilemmas that are faced on a day to day as an administrator. No one day is the same and things can quickly change the agenda in a split second. I had the fortunate opportunity to shadow my principal mentor on a day that was havoc and chaos. I became aware that administrators can be subpoenaed for incidents that occurred on the school campus or any off-school campus where they are the administrator in charge. In addition, one of my interviewees explained that they have had no legal dilemmas, but they do face exceptional student education   (ESE) issues that sometimes go up for Manifestation hearing due to the student’s behavior. As an educational leader, it is essential for me to ethically handle the responsibilities of being a school administrator with grace. Each student and staff member that works under my guidance should always know that their well-being, academic success, and growth matter to me and that I am willing to go above and beyond any obstacles to make sure that we are always on the leading edge of success and perseverance (PSEL 2015).
I will hold each student, staff member, parent, and community representative to the same standards that I have set as an educational leader that will strategically provide opportunities for students to always feel safe, provide teachers with a learning environment that is free from disruption, continue to develop a relationship with community members that will assist in promoting our school that will enable us to continue to provide the resources available to all families and most importantly to work collaboratively with other administrators that will allow us to be better than we can be (PSEL 2015).
