INTEGRATION OF FAITH AND LEARNING RESPONSIBILITY ASSIGNMENT 1 Integration of Faith and Learning: Responsibility Assignment Marketing management can be scary and even a little intimidating for some people. One can assume that’s exactly how Joshua felt in the Bible when God told him to take the land and take possession of Canaan, the land of milk and honey. A lot of times, people don’t just feel like they’re not equipped; some people are fearful and don’t think they have what it takes. What one may feel is not what God feels. In Joshua 1:9, God gives a mandate. Just as God gave Joshua a mandate to take possession of Canaan, he too gives us a mandate to take possession of our careers in marketing. Joshua 1:9 reads Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. God gives Joshua clear direction and guidance and tells him he will be successful everywhere he walks. Marketing management is about innovation, segmentation, positioning, targeting, differentiation, and loyalty building (Mesly, 2020, p. 66). In marketing management, it’s important to remember that no task or assignment is too big for you. Marketing management consists of various duties, and those working in marketing management would agree that working doesn’t automatically stop outside of the workplace. If you've ever stayed at the Marriott while traveling, you may have discovered a Bible and a Book of Mormon in your room. The Marriott has been very vocal about its biblical values when it comes to the company as a whole. Why is giving visitors access to the Bible a great marketing strategy? because it allows them to stand out from their many competitors. This gesture also allows the public to see where their values are aligned and their pride in behaving ethically since they do identify as a strong faith-based organization. Also, the Marriott announced back in 2011 that it would no longer be providing pay-per-view porn channels in any
INTEGRATION OF FAITH AND LEARNING RESPONSIBILITY ASSIGNMENT 1 of its new rooms and that it would phase out adult-content video services from its 600,000 hotel rooms worldwide (Weekly, 2011). The Marriott received a lot of criticism following that decision. However, it didn’t stop them from doing what’s right in the eyes of God. In addition to that, in marketing management, every decision being made and every action taking place should align according to God and his word. As he helped guide Joshua along his journey, he too will do the same for us, even in marketing management. Doing what’s right for the customers and the company that you work for is important. Four components listed by Mesly to describe marketing management were positioning, targeting, differentiation, and loyalty building. The Marriott showcased every one of those components just by providing Bibles in rooms and removing adult entertainment television access from their hotels.
