IHP 340 Milestone One: Proposal and Research Methods 1. Describe the  purpose of the study,  including the research questions and hypothesis. The research question I chose is “Do Scribes impact Provider time management?” This study aims to classify how providers share their time while working a clinical shift and to observe the impact that scribes have on providers’ time distribution. The study's hypothesis is to see if scribers influence how providers use their time during their clinical shifts. 2. Identify whether the study design is  experimental or observational.  Support your identification with examples from the study. This study is considered observational because the scribes and providers are observed by research assistants without using any treatment on either member. The study also used the Wilcoxon rank-sum test which compares interval data. 3. Identify the methods used to collect the data and explain why the methods are appropriate based on the research question. The method that was used to collect the data was the quantitative method. The quantitative method is good to use because when the study is done it can be done numerically. 4. Identify the data collected as quantitative or categorical. Support your identification with examples from the study. The data that was collected is quantitative. The data is quantitative because the data reveals documentation time for a 24hr scribe and without-scribe.
5. Discuss the weaknesses of the data collection method used. Support your discussion with specific details. The weakness of using the quantitative method is that it failed to account for the times that were spent by the providers to examine place orders, records, or the time that was spent talking about patient care with employees.
