Group Paper: Building & Communicating the Vision
11/19/2023
An organization that I work for and have a great passion for is Head Start. I work for a
branch of this program that works under Maricopa County Human Services.Head Start (HS) and
Early Head Start (EHS) are funded by the United States Department of Health and Human
Services, Administration for Children and Families.Their vision is: Healthy Educated Children in
Supportive Families. Their mission is: To educate children and support families with a broad and
holistic range of supports to ensure that children ages birth to 5 years old are prepared and
ready for school. Partnering with families, educating and developing young children, and
developing community partnerships. The values of this program are; child safety, contingency
engagement, cultural relevance, diversity, education, employee employment and advancement,
family-center and strengths based, health, inclusion, innovation, integrity, solutions-focused,
stewardship, teamwork, and trust. (MCHSD, 2023)
The main goal of this program is to provide quality education for young children all while
supporting under privileged families. These services are provided by family support specialist
and teaching staff in the classrooms. This program provides connections to resources such as;
food, clothing, and school supplies to those in need. The families are also given access to
counseling and other support services to help them cope with difficult situations This program
offers an opportunity for families to build relationships with other families, and to build a sense of
community. It also helps to create a strong foundation for children's future success.
If I were to revamp their current mission and vision statements.
Vision: To create a strong foundation for every child's future by providing high-quality early
education that fosters holistic development and a love for learning.
Mission: At Head Start, Our mission is to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where
children can explore, discover, and develop their full potential. We are committed to offering a
comprehensive early education program that focuses on cognitive, social, emotional, and
physical development. Through our dedicated team of experienced educators, we aim to instill a
lifelong love for learning, promote creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. We
strive to create a safe and inclusive space where children and families feel valued, respected,
and supported in their individual growth and development. By partnering with parents and the
community, we endeavor to lay a solid foundation for children's future success, ensuring they
are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
As a hypothetical new director for the program I would having an opening speech to
introduce myself, the vision, and mission statement to the staff members.
Opening Speech:
Thank you for welcoming me as the new director of Head Start. It is an honor to stand before
you today and share with you the vision and mission that drive our organization. Our vision at
Head Start is to create a strong foundation for every child's future by providing high-quality early
education that fosters holistic development and a love for learning. We believe that the early
years of a child's life are crucial for setting them on a path to success. By offering them a
nurturing and stimulating environment, we can help them explore, discover, and develop their
full potential. At Head Start, our mission is clear - we are committed to providing a
comprehensive early education program that focuses on cognitive, social, emotional, and
physical development. We understand that each child is unique, and we strive to create an
inclusive space where they can grow and thrive. Through the dedication of our experienced
educators, we aim to instill a lifelong love for learning and nurture their creativity, critical thinking,
and problem-solving skills. We firmly believe that education is a partnership, and we value the
collaboration between parents, the community, and our program. Together, we can lay a solid
foundation for our children's future success. We are here to support and empower families,
ensuring they feel valued, respected, and supported in their individual growth and development.
By providing a safe and inclusive space, we enable children to flourish and reach their full
potential. Allow me to share with you a success story that exemplifies the impact Head Start can
have on the lives of families. Kaela, a determined young mother, found herself facing the
challenges of continuing her education after becoming pregnant in her senior year of high
school. Thankfully, she discovered the support offered by Head Start through Mount Hood
Community College (MHCC). With access to Early Head Start and Head Start services, Kaela
was able to pursue her higher education while her daughter received the care and education
she needed. By having her daughter enrolled in Head Start, Kaela experienced a newfound
peace of mind. She was able to routinely check on her daughter and witness her being well
cared for, allowing her to focus on her studies and work part-time. Kaela's involvement in our
program's policy council also provided her with valuable advocacy skills, empowering her to
advocate for both herself and her daughter. Kaela's story is just one of many examples that
highlight the transformative power of Head Start.(Peyton-Jackson, 2023) We are here to ensure
that every child and family that comes through our doors experiences the same support, care,
and opportunities for growth and success. As the new director of Head Start, I am committed to
upholding our vision and mission. I pledge to work tirelessly alongside our dedicated team,
educators, parents, and the community to make a positive impact on the lives of the children we
serve. Together, we will create a strong foundation for their future and prepare them for the
challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Thank you once again for your warm welcome, and
I look forward to embarking on this journey with each and every one of you. Let us continue to
nurture, empower, and shape the young minds that will shape our world. Thank you.
