2 Field Activity: Organization, Activity, Role, Project Timeline Type of Healthcare Organization This field activity will be focused on the oncology space of the healthcare industry. I currently work for an outpatient hematology and oncology clinic that serves the region in which I live. Our practice currently has 14 locations throughout the area, covering a wide variety of cancer types and services, such as medical and radiation oncology. In a city with many large health systems and two major oncology practices, we pride ourselves on being the best and only value-based care option for individuals in need. With a pharmacist CEO, my organization has a special focus on drugs and the therapies we provide, as we house a specialty pharmacy in which patients can fill prescriptions provided by our physicians and any corresponding drugs they may need for any part of their care. Summary of the Field Activity To further develop the value-based care aspect of our practice, my organization is participating in the Center for Medicare and Medicare Services Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM). This program aligns with President Biden's Cancer Moonshot initiative, focusing on improving the care experience for individuals and their families as they navigate and manage a cancer diagnosis. For this field study, I will review the payment model itself, what my organization has done to prepare for the start of this model, and the evaluation of our current and future processes to provide the most cost-effective and clinically effective treatment for our patients. Role of the Student My role in this practice is rooted in data analysis and reimbursement. I am one of the main points of contact between my organization and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Largely focused on reporting, my role is to make sure our clinics are evaluating our

Every week, it is my job to make sure our clinics are working toward completing any necessary documentation on their end to enroll qualifying patients and to inform patients of their participation in this program. Reporting to my organization's Chief Operations Officer, I also keep track of the claims data reporting we receive back from CMS. This data can shape our processes and decision-making going forward when it comes to the care we are providing. Timeline of the Project/Activity Overall, the Enhancing Oncology Model takes place over 5 years, with each patient episode spanning 6 months of cancer treatment. The overall timeline of this project spans the last 6 months of work my organization has completed and the next few weeks as we receive and interpret the first real set of data we receive from CMS. The data provided can mean that we receive payment for our efforts in reducing our patient spend or that we owe as our treatment costs did not meet the requirements of this program set out by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
