HUSS125 – Family Theory and Services Week 3 – Essay Mandatory Reports of Child Abuse and Neglect Child Welfare Information Gateway State Statutes Search In the state of Cleveland Ohio, mandatory reporters would include Attorneys, Health-care professionals, including physicians, interns, residents, dentists, podiatrists, or nurses. Licensed psychologists, school psychologists, or marriage and family therapists. Teachers, school employees, or school authorities. Social workers, professional counselors, or employees of home health agencies. Any other person who suspects that a child has suffered or faces a threat of suffering from abuse or neglect may report.   A report is required when a mandated person is acting in an official or professional capacity and knows or suspects that a child under age 18 or a person under age 21 with a developmental disability or physical impairment   has suffered or faces a threat of suffering any physical or mental wound, injury, disability, or condition of a nature that reasonably indicates abuse or neglect of the child.   The reporter is not required to provide their name in the report, but if they want to receive information on the outcome of the investigation, they must provide their name, address, and telephone number to the person who receives the report. The information provided in a report made pursuant to this section and the name of the person who made the report shall not be released for use and shall not be used as evidence in any civil action or proceeding brought against the person who made the report. I agree with the mandatory reporting laws here in Ohio.
HUSS125 – Week 3 Essay 2 I do not think there is any legal and ethical issues that would impact my career in the human and social services field. As long I treat each client with respect, dignity, and support, I should not have any ethical issues. Obtaining informed consent and having a structured professional relationship is important between a therapist and client. Being a mandated reporter in Ohio is very similar to other states, they have an ethical and legal obligation to report any information regarding child abuse or neglect. It also rolls over into my future profession because as someone working with families it is a must that I know the mandatory reporting laws and how it becomes an ethical and legal issue. During this week lecture I have learned the professional and ethical concerns we have examined thus far (like mandatory reporting, legal liability, and confidentiality) apply to whether a therapist is working with an individual or a family/couple.There are, however, special ethical considerations in working with families and couples. As we saw, one of these considerations involves how to keep confidentiality when speaking individually with a variety of family members or both members of a couples.
