Article Description             The main key term for this week is global leadership issues, and the article selected for this week comes from  The Wall Street Journal,  and it is called "The Country That Is Helping Tens of Thousands of Migrants Head to the U.S." So, the article talks about how Nicaragua opened their country to provide asylum to Haitians, Cubans, and African to reach the southern border. So, their president, Daniel Ortega, made this decision due to the political meltdown occurring mainly in Haiti. Their president had to make some decisions that not only directly impact the country but also the other countries involved, all to help the affected due to political issues. Furthermore, the reason why I chose this article is that it addresses the current issues related to global leadership, and at the same time, it provides a real-life example to become familiar with the topic.  Application            To be more specific about how the key topic has been applied to real-world international business by understanding global leadership issues, according to this article, "It reveals the failure of both ethics and leadership in the financial sector in particular, and also in the wider corporate establishment. Responsibility also rests with many central government regulators, whose "light touch" approach and belief in the market and market forces worked to prime the powder keg for the eventual explosion and collapse." (Jones et al., 2010, p.2) this happens when these issues are not being handled properly, so instead of providing a solution, it affects many aspects of business. Now, the article is a clear example of how Nicaragua's president is making decisions to help people from other countries, but for this to happen, there should have been research prior to the decision made, like understanding how many immigrants they can accept
before negatively affecting the country's economy. Finally, another article describes this as a strategic move because "The global nature of much knowledge, of knowledge services and of knowledge networks and the ambitions of knowledge-intensive firms to expand globally adds to the leadership challenge, bringing into focus both cultural differences and other international business issues such as the protection of intellectual property rights and increased competition for the best talent." (Millar et al., 2015).  References Jones, M. T., & Millar, Carla C. J. M. (2010). About global leadership and global ethics, and a possible moral compass: An introduction to the special issue.
