SPD 560 Topic 5 DQ 4 Assistive technology supports students with disabilities in learning better, ultimately contributing to their success both inside and outside the classroom (Stephanie DeLussey, 2019). Planning is important when using assistive technology with students as it ensures that the devices are prepared for a smooth operation. Devices can be difficult to operate, especially when it is used for the first time, as it may contain many components and therefore proper planning assists in ensuring that all parts are working to make sure the student can benefit fully from the device. When determining key concept vocabulary and action words to include on the device or in picture it is important for the educator to make these decisions with the lesson in mind. Including key concepts and details, that the educator will need to use to explain the lesson, is crucial for the students to have access to the relevant information needed to be able to keep up with the learning. So yes, planning is crucial as it helps teachers figure out which words and actions are important for students to learn and then incorporate these onto devices or in pictures, making sure those students can fully join in and understand the lesson.
