1 Henry Health Services: The Joint Commission Tre’Shelle Henry Coppin State University HEED 305 Professor Maelondy Holman February 19 th , 2023
2 Henry The joint commission is accredited and accredits more than 22,000 medical institutions and programs across the United States, including hospitals and medical institutions that provide outpatient and ambulatory surgery , behavioral medicine, home health care, laboratory, and nursing center services.   Having standards are the foundation of an objective evaluation process that helps healthcare organizations measure, evaluate, and improve performance. The standards focus on critical care and organizational functions for patients, individuals, or residents that are essential to providing safe, high-quality care.   Some of the best practices that are related to the Joint Commission have come from the Cleveland Clinic. The Cleveland Clinic has come up with multiple practices such as, “Shield Conference”, “The Pause”, and “Daily Tiered Huddles”. “ The best practices the Joint Commission identified are those that are considered ‘new’ to the surveyors, meaning they’ve never seen these exact practices, policies, or protocols before.” (Russa, 2020) . The Joint Commission has allowed many hospitals to showcase their ways of leadership and communication skills. Having great communication allowed from the nurses gives even better care for the patients that they may take care of. The Pause allows for a period to be silent after a patient has passed away. The Joint Commission saw that to be a compassionate way to be respectful to the patient and their family during the time of grief. Having these practices in place shows great improvement for hospitals around the country to learn and make changes to the way that they do certain things in their hospital. Treating all customers, colleagues , and third parties with whom you interact with respect, honesty, fairness, and integrity. Don't compromise completeness for a quick fix. Ethical principles incorporate integrity and respect for joint committees as core elements of our corporate culture.   The Joint Commission standards are the foundation of an objective evaluation process that helps healthcare organizations measure, evaluate, and improve performance.
