MEMO TO: CEO FROM: Student Name DATE: 15 th March 2023 SUBJECT: Risk Mitigation Case 1: Great Western Hospital Risk/Problem The Great Western Hospital is seen to be classified into 4 main divisions where aspects of caring for high-risk pregnancies are handled by the children and women’s department (Porter et al, 2013). This is consequently an indication that the issue of high-risk pregnancies is approached in a conventional manner rather than embracing a modern approach. Aspects of inadequate risk management are also evident in the form of non-compliance to the policies set by the regulation board. This is in consideration of the fact that the organization has put in place internal and external components. Merger issues are also evident and play a significant role in derailing efforts to plan and reorganize and this is evident in Dr. Narayan’s plan. The increase in the population of high-risk pregnancy individuals also highlighted the need to move from conventional paper records to electronic records. Additionally, a lack of training and communication among the staff members is also evident and consequently hinders the delivery of quality care to patients with high-risk pregnancies and their children. Recommended Solutions
Merging with Wiltshire proves to be an effective strategy for addressing the issue of high- risk pregnancies in the health care facility. Coupling this with the proposal by Br. Narayan on evidence-based management and in-service training also proves to be critical in addressing the issue of high-risk pregnancies. It is also important to consider the objectives and policies of the regulatory board to enhance alignment with the objectives of the healthcare facility and those of the healthcare workers. An internal audit is also crucial for Great Western Hospital as it helps uncover the gaps in the system that lead to the development of issues. It is also important for the organization to consider enhancing its data management approach to ensure that it has a rich patient health history. The facility should also create room for the utilization of external resources in a process that enhances the collaboration of care for the delivery of services to the patients. Mitigation The recommendable solution for Great Western Hospital is to link the expenditures on the patients to the results. This will be a crucial step in ensuring that value is enhanced on the part of the patients and that resources are utilized effectively for the provision of quality care. This also extends to the utilization of resources in the distribution of information to the health care workers and teams to ensure that they have an adequate understanding of the strategies they should adopt in enhancing quality care on the part of the patients. Expected Outcome Outcomes are expected in the form of reduced claims of negligence and also strict compliance with the practices and policies laid down by the regulatory board. The quality of care will also be enhanced in addition to the delivery of safer services, the quality of outcomes of the

health of the patients, and also the security of the long-term financial goals of the organization. Financial pressure on the organization will also be relieved therefore creating room for the effective allocation and utilization of resources in a process that enhances the quality of care to the patients. The rate of adoption of innovation will also be enhanced through the regulatory board, therefore, creating room for the delivery of quality care and consequently enhancing the quality of outcomes for the patients. Case 2: Providence Healthcare Risk/Problem One problem that is evidence in the organization is the lack of a clear communication strategy that enhances the flow of communication through the organization. As much as Walsh has made efforts to adopt a communication strategy and implement it in the organization, it has not adequately served the needs of the organization and therefore needs a bigger platform of communication. Open and transparent communication is needed in the organization on the part of the employees, the management, and also individuals in need of the services of the organization. This will be crucial in enhancing the aspects of teamwork, collaboration, compliance, and engagement which are also needed in the organization to enhance performance and the delivery of services. The leadership of the organization also needs to develop trust with the employees and this can be enhanced through the development of a communication plan that considers the aspects of openness and transparency. Recommended Solution Considering that Walsh is a transformative leader, it is important to develop positive change in the organization to enhance the level of collaboration and performance in the
organization (El-Amin & George, 2020). Through inspirational strategies, she can inspire the employees and teams of the organization towards a particular direction and vision that entails collaboration and communication. In the development of new strategies that involve change, Walsh should consider incorporating the ideas and opinions of other individuals in the organization. This will be crucial in earning the full support of all stakeholders when undertaking new courses of action. Additionally, a collaborative approach to change in the organization will be essential in ensuring that the change introduced in the organization is sustained therefore creating room for the derivation of benefits for an extended duration. Mitigation The mitigation strategy that should be adopted by the healthcare organization should involve a change in the organization culture. This change would entail the adoption of practices such as recognizing the efforts of the employees, rewarding outstanding achievements, encouraging the spirit of teamwork, creating a culture of trust among all individuals in the organization, and also encouraging open and free communication. It is also important to consider having regular meetings that create an opportunity for the employees to air their grievances and ideas and this is essential in aligning the interests of the employees with those of the leadership. Adopting these practices is essential in creating an organizational environment that is transparent and capable of enhancing sustainable change (Yue, et al, 2019). Expected Outcome Changing the culture of the organization would initially prove to be essential in enhancing the level of communication among the employees and also with the top leadership. This would consequently foster the spirit of teamwork and enhance the level of productivity in
the healthcare organization. Decision making would also be enhanced through a process of easier consultation and the creation of an information pool for easier decision making. Other expected outcomes would also be evident in the form of sustained growth that is enhanced by a sense of satisfaction among the employees who consequently work towards the success of the organization.
