Task 2 – Performance and Skills Assessment
You are required to select an organisation in order to complete this assessment. An organisation can be a
business, charity, association, not-for-profit enterprise or government body.
You may select your own organisation (for example, your own business or one you plan to start); an
organisation you have access to, such as a business owned by a friend or family; or your current employer.
Alternatively, you can work in small groups with other members of your class and create a hypothetical
organisation for the purpose of this assessment.
Prior to commencing this assessment task, you
may choose to discuss your chosen organisation with your
trainer.
Part A: Establish practices that support individual differences and work effectively with individual
differences in the workplace.
This task will require you to
Identify and implement inclusive work practices for your chosen organisation /
workplace by completing the following:
1.

be colleagues, clients or customers).
If you are using a hypothetical organisation with your class

Describe how you will modify verbal and non-verbal communication as needed to
accommodate those individual differences
Answer:
Speaking in a confident manner will help you build trust and command the respect of your audience. There are
several factors which can impact your ability to speak confidently, including your command of the subject matter,
your word choice, the tone of your voice, your body language, and your ability to make direct eye contact with your
audience.
People can communicate information in numerous ways, so pay attention to things like eye contact, gestures,
posture, body movements, and tone of voice. All of these signals can convey important information that is not put
into words.
If someone's words do not match their nonverbal behaviors, you should pay careful attention. For example, someone
might tell you they are happy while frowning and staring at the ground.

When words fail to match up with nonverbal signals, people tend to ignore what has been said and focus instead on
unspoken expressions of moods, thoughts, and emotions. So when someone says one thing but their body language
suggests something else, it can be useful to pay extra attention to those subtle nonverbal cues.
Your tone of voice can convey a wealth of information, ranging from enthusiasm to disinterest to anger. Tone can be
an effective way to amplify your message.
For example, if you want to show genuine interest in something, express your enthusiasm by using an animated tone
of voice. Such signals not only convey your feelings about a topic; they can also help generate interest in the people
listening to you speak.
Good eye contact is another essential nonverbal communication skill. When people fail to look others in the eye, it
can seem as if they are evading or trying to hide something. On the other hand, too much eye contact can seem
confrontational or intimidating.
While eye contact is an important part of communication, it's important to remember that good eye contact does not
mean staring fixedly into someone's eyes.
Remember that verbal and nonverbal communication work together to convey a message. You can improve your
spoken communication by using body language that reinforces and supports what you are saying. This can be
especially useful when making presentations or when speaking to a large group of people.
For example, if your goal is to appear confident and prepared during a presentation, you will want to focus on
sending nonverbal signals that ensure that others see you as self-assured and capable. You can strike a self-confident
stance by:
Standing firmly in one place
Keeping your shoulders back
Keeping your weight balanced on both feet
Part B: Access of inclusive practices
This task will require you to seek, evaluate and incorporate feedback to make improvements to work
practices for an organisation/a workplace.
Prepare a PowerPoint presentation that you could use to present the information gathered in this task to
relevant stakeholders in your chosen organisation. Include all relevant information from points 1-4 above.
Use the following headings in your slides:
Individual differences in the workplace
Current organisational policies and procedures in place
Action Plan
Modification of verbal and non-verbal communication to address individual differences for 2 work
practices
If you have chosen a real organisation for this assignment, seek feedback from a relevant supervisor. If your
organisation is hypothetical, seek feedback from one of your trainer and / or current classmates.
Feedback on modified inclusive work practices

Opportunities for improvement
How the feedback will be
incorporated
Gender equality should be
taken into account carefully.
For example, female staffs
agreed that male staffs do not
use the coffee machine,
printer and rubbish bin
properly. Female staffs always
needed to clean up messy
office tools after male staffs
used. If someone suggest any
male staffs that they need to
use them properly and do not
make huge mess, male staffs
always make it word.
Suggestion came that having
contingency plan help us if
there is something happens
related to diversity policy
