Pick any corporation you are familiar with and identify one of the competitive tactics it uses from this week’s reading “Formulating Strategy.” Analyze the competitive tactic it uses.   Consider its internal and external environment using any of the strategic management tools in the course (SWOT, PEST, 5 Forces).   Synthesize (develop a new idea) for a competitive tactic it should attempt. I will select the corporation that I currently work for as we are busy doing our strategy planning for the up coming year. We are a tax company and we need to increase our sales for the next 12 months. Our goals are to find new clients, continue assisting our current clients, and to offer a high quality service. The competitive tactics we use are the following: We create a digital marketing campaign as well as offer complimentary webinars to show potential clients who we are. We have a strong online presence and often are in the media when we offer tax advice. We offer client referral programs to incentives our current clients to refer us to other potential clients. The industry is very tight knit, and more business comes from referrals than from cold sales. Besides the webinars we also offer free training and workshops to large corporations in order to gain potential clients. Tax matters can be quite complex in our country and by offering help with small matters, we are able to get in clients with complex matters. We also create service pakages that are tailored to clients needs. Some clients send us thousands of induviduals, and we have set up extensive real time trackers that the client can access at
anytime. We use technology that is specifically designed by us to show clients an overview of all their tax matters and areas of non-compliance. We have regular communication with our clients. We respond to mails and calls within 4-6 hours to ensure that the clients are not kept waiting or needing to call again. SWOT: Strengths: Using our expertise and experience to be a mrket leader. Weaknesses: Tax can be very seasonal. Opportunities: By being ahead of legislative changes we can continue to be a market leader. Threats: Econimic downturn, people not having the money to spend on professional services.
