Wk5Discussion -WMBA-6020 – Leader Innovation An innovative leader applies creativity, identifies problems, develops opportunities, promotes new products, and services, and inspires. One innovative leader example is a leader that molded me into the leader I am. She was my hard-lines manager at a retail store for which I was the area manager over 6 different departments and the employees in those departments. The reason she is an innovative leader is how she taught and molded me. She was very knowledgeable and creative of the retail business. She was open-minded with driving sales, marketing techniques, and advertising. She was very strong willed, resilient, and challenged me at every corner. She inspired me to come up with my own creative ideas for which she would offer feedback. She didn’t just tell me what to do, she made me think for myself and work through my own mistakes. She didn’t just want to mold me into a good area manager, she wanted me to become a great leader and understand the process. Based on her traits, she is a perfect example of an innovative leader (Dyer, Gregersen, & Christensen, 2011). Explain what about that individual’s leadership inspires you to take a more innovative approach to your own leadership. Based on the way she taught me; I use those techniques for inspiring others. I don’t just provide guidance but reasoning behind the processes. I challenge myself and am very critical about my work. I am creative, open-minded, practical, and strong with communication. I know that to move forward with new innovative ideas, being knowledgeable is essential. Instead of being afraid of failing, I thrive off learning through trial and error because of the innovative leader that taught me. I strive to achieve very challenging goals through resilience and determination. My leadership skills are strong, creative, and innovative through the learning I received (Cohn, Katezenbach, & Vlak, 2008). Cohn, J., Katzenbach, J., & Vlak, G. (2008, November 30).
